Ramayana advance booking hits Rs 93.59 cr before release

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend has not yet opened, but its advance window is already redrawing the Diwali release rulebook. The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, has clocked an estimated Rs 93.59 crore in advance bookings across its first six show dates, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India. Excluding blocked seats, the number stands at Rs 74.69 crore.

Day one carries the weight

Thursday, November 5, accounts for the largest slice: Rs 38.27 crore gross and Rs 32.41 crore excluding blocked seats. Friday and Saturday follow at Rs 17.40 crore and Rs 19.48 crore respectively. Sunday and Monday currently trail, at Rs 13.20 crore and Rs 5.25 crore, which is the pattern to watch because the holiday dates are still the softest in the window.

The release was originally set for Diwali on November 8 and was advanced to November 5. That is the number with context: the industry has long treated the days just before Diwali as a weak corridor for a big-ticket opener.

Premium formats and the language skew

Premium formats are doing disproportionate work. They contributed Rs 5.60 crore from only 390 shows, roughly 15% of Day 1 advance gross from about 2% of shows. That is a signal about where the marginal ticket revenue is coming from: audiences willing to pay up for the better screen before the holiday rush.

Hindi is the dominant version, with Rs 29.32 crore from 19,463 shows, or 77% of Day 1 gross. The film is also playing in dubbed versions, but early reviews and audience chatter are pointing people to the original Hindi cut, with reports pointing to a shorter English dubbed runtime and AI-generated lip movements drawing criticism.

  • Day 1 advance: Rs 38.27 cr gross (Rs 32.41 cr without blocked seats)
  • Hindi share of Day 1: 77%
  • Premium formats: 15% of Day 1 gross from 2% of shows
  • Overseas advance: USD 5.65 million, with North America at USD 4.24 million

What it means for the release calendar

Karnataka leads state-level Day 1 advances with Rs 6.86 crore, followed by Maharashtra at Rs 6.41 crore and Delhi at Rs 4.69 crore. The pull in Karnataka is notable given Yash’s base, but the spread across Hindi and South markets supports a pan-India opening.

In a related calendar move, Godzilla Minus Zero has postponed its India release from November 6 to November 20. That hands Ramayana an exclusive two-week window, reducing direct competition and giving exhibitors room to hold premium screens.

The advance number matters less as a final total and more as a demand signal. Media planners and exhibitors can read it as evidence that a pre-Diwali opening can work when the title, cast and format mix justify the slot. For marketing teams, the early gap between Sunday and Monday and the rest of the window is worth watching: if those Diwali sessions catch up, the opening frame could strengthen further.
