Who we are
ScreenStat is a news and analysis publication. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you read the site or interact with us on social media, why we collect it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, write to contact@screenstat.in.
What we collect
- Server logs. Like every website, our servers record the IP address, browser type, pages requested and time of each visit. We use these to keep the site running, secure and fast, and delete them on a rolling basis.
- Analytics. Where enabled, we use privacy-respecting web analytics to understand which stories are read. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify you.
- Newsletter and contact. If you subscribe to a newsletter or write to us, we keep the email address and message you give us for that purpose. You can unsubscribe from any email with one click.
- Comments. If commenting is open on a story, we store the name, email and text you submit, and the IP address, to display the comment and to detect spam.
- Cookies. We set only the cookies needed for the site to work (for example, remembering a preference). Third-party embeds such as Instagram or YouTube posts may set their own cookies when you load them; those are governed by the embedding platform’s policy.
Social media and platform integrations
We publish our stories to our own accounts and pages on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and Threads through those platforms’ official developer APIs. The applications we register with these platforms are used solely to post our content to accounts we own and to read engagement statistics for those accounts. They do not collect, store or process personal data of any platform user, do not read anyone’s messages, friends or connections, and do not track you across those services. Your interactions with our posts on a platform are governed by that platform’s own privacy policy.
Where a story is about a company or a person with a public account, we may mention or tag that public account so readers can find the source. We tag only public professional accounts that are the subject of, or quoted in, the story.
How we use personal data
- To deliver, secure and improve the website.
- To send newsletters you have asked for and to answer messages you send us.
- To display comments and prevent abuse.
- To measure, in aggregate, what is read.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising profiles.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that make the site run, on our instructions: our hosting provider, our email delivery provider for newsletters, and our analytics provider where enabled. Each is bound to use the data only to provide the service. We disclose personal data to authorities only when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept for a short rolling period. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments and correspondence are kept for as long as they are relevant to the story or the enquiry, after which they are deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and where it applies, the EU and UK GDPR, you may ask us to confirm what personal data we hold about you, to correct or complete it, to erase it, or to withdraw a consent you gave. You may also nominate someone to exercise these rights for you. Write to contact@screenstat.in and we will respond within the time the law allows. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India or, where the GDPR applies, to your local supervisory authority.
Children
The site is written for working professionals and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, access to our systems is restricted to the people who run the publication, and credentials are rotated when there is any reason to think they may have been exposed. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your personal data we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Links to other sites
Every story names and links the publication it draws on. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top. Material changes will be noted on this page for at least 30 days.
