Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit delivered a rare late-run box office bounce on Saturday, September 19, collecting Rs 1.90 crore net in India on day 30, according to Sacnilk. That is an 84.5% increase from the Rs 1.03 crore it earned a day earlier, and it came from a slightly wider footprint of 1,003 shows, up from 935 on Friday.
The Saturday lift pushed the film’s India net total to Rs 155.13 crore after 30 days. India gross now stands at Rs 181.12 crore. A Rs 40 lakh overseas day took the overseas cume to Rs 136.85 crore, putting the worldwide gross at Rs 317.97 crore.
What drove the day 30 bump
Occupancy explains much of the jump. The film recorded about 29% overall occupancy on day 29, then moved to roughly 43% on Saturday. The Malayalam-language version did the heavy lifting, while dubbed versions added smaller but useful amounts.
- Malayalam: Rs 1.55 crore from 829 shows; 43% occupancy
- Telugu: Rs 20 lakh from 113 shows; 30% occupancy
- Tamil: Rs 15 lakh from 61 shows; 67% occupancy
The Malayalam version’s overall occupancy was 43.56%, with night screenings peaking at 58.08%. The day-part curve shows the film is still behaving like a weekend title: morning shows were quiet at 21.58%, afternoon improved to 39.42%, evening held at 41%, and night shows delivered the strongest turnout.
The long-tail picture
Week-wise, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit opened at Rs 52.30 crore, then held well with Rs 49.85 crore in week two. Week three brought Rs 33.30 crore, and week four added Rs 16.75 crore. A late-run Saturday jump of this size matters because it suggests the original-language version still has demand when screens and showtimes are restored for the weekend, even after the initial rush has passed.
For distribution and exhibition teams, the language split is the actionable signal. The Malayalam version remains the primary driver, but the Telugu and Tamil versions are still converting at occupancies that justify retaining some screens. Tamil occupancy of 67% from only 61 shows stands out: that is a high fill rate on a limited show count, which may support holding or adding a small number of shows if demand holds.
Contrast with IM Game
Dulquer Salmaan’s IM Game shows how thin late-run numbers can get for a title without the same momentum. The film collected Rs 2 lakh on day 17, after Rs 1 lakh on day 16. Its India net is Rs 25.39 crore, with India gross at Rs 29.59 crore, overseas gross at Rs 18.20 crore, and worldwide gross at Rs 47.79 crore. The Malayalam version accounts for Rs 18.51 crore of the India net.
The comparison is not about star value; it is about how two Malayalam titles are performing at different ends of the theatrical tail. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit is still producing meaningful weekend spikes in its fifth week, while IM Game is effectively winding down at the daily lakh level.
