Jailer 2 hits Rs 545 cr India gross before OTT bow

The Day 22 count

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is no longer adding the crore-plus daily sums of its opening stretch, but the cumulative India gross remains the headline. As of Day 22, live estimates put the film at Rs 545.42 crore gross and Rs 466.32 crore net in India, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India.

The day’s live addition is modest: Rs 27 lakh from 765 shows. The Tamil version contributed Rs 22 lakh from 643 shows, while the Telugu version brought in Rs 5 lakh from 93 shows. Final numbers were expected later in the day.

Where the theatrical tail stands

Week one delivered Rs 334.35 crore net and week two added Rs 95.55 crore. The film has now settled into lower single-digit daily collections, which is normal at this stage for a wide release that has already burned through much of its opening demand.

  • Day 19: Rs 3.40 crore
  • Day 20: Rs 3.35 crore
  • Day 21: Rs 3.00 crore
  • Day 22 (live): Rs 0.27 crore

For media planners, the difference between net and gross is part of the story. Net collections strip out taxes and reflect the theatrical business more cleanly; gross is the larger figure used in headlines and milestones, which is why Rs 545 crore gross carries the marketing weight.

Why the OTT date changes the calculus

Amazon Prime Video will debut Jailer 2 on November 12, 2026 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. With the film still in theatres, the exclusive window is now only days away. Digital rights revenue and streaming reach come in earlier, but the trade-off is a faster end to the big-screen tail.

This is the real planning question: after the OTT drop, does the film extend its audience among viewers who did not visit theatres, or does availability cut into the remaining theatrical business? The next set of weekend occupancy and streaming rankings will be the clearest early signal.

What to watch

The Day 22 Tamil contribution is roughly four-fifths of the daily collection, making the Tamil version the core driver while the Telugu version plays a smaller supporting role. That language mix should guide discovery campaigns on Prime Video, particularly for a title arriving in five languages.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 stars Rajinikanth alongside Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Suraj Venjaramoodu, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. For entertainment marketers, the key metric shifts from “how many crores today” to “how many households and language markets does the streaming premiere pull”.
