VIBE Sunday Box Office Uptick: Net Hits Rs 7.45 Crore

Kunal Kemmu’s second directorial feature, the Hindi action-comedy VIBE, closed its opening weekend with a modest but consistent lift. The film released theatrically in India on September 18, 2026, and collected Rs 3 crore on Sunday, according to Sacnilk data cited by News18. That took its three-day India net to Rs 7.45 crore.

India gross after three days stood at Rs 8.94 crore. Sunday’s Rs 3 crore was a 9.1% increase over Saturday’s Rs 2.75 crore, which in turn came after a Rs 1.70 crore Friday opening.

The weekend curve

  • Friday: Rs 1.70 crore
  • Saturday: Rs 2.75 crore
  • Sunday: Rs 3.00 crore
  • Three-day India net: Rs 7.45 crore

Saturday was the larger step-up, climbing roughly 61.8% over Friday. Sunday then added another single-digit lift. For a theatrical Hindi title with recognisable faces, the direction is healthy, but the absolute level remains modest. VIBE is building an audience incrementally rather than landing a broad opening-day stampede.

Where audiences are showing up

The film played 2,839 shows on Sunday with overall occupancy of 23%. The Hindi 2D version performed better than the overall average at 25.10%. Evening shows were the strongest slot at 34%, followed by afternoon shows at 30.15% and night shows at 26.46%. Morning shows lagged sharply at 9.77%.

That time-band skew is a practical planning cue. If mornings are collecting well under 10%, the weekday schedule may need to consolidate around afternoon, evening and late-night slots where the audience is actually converting. Media planners and exhibitors should watch whether VIBE keeps those evening audiences in the working week or whether the weekend was only release-week sampling.

Another way to read the screen count: Sunday’s Rs 3 crore across 2,839 shows works out to an average of roughly Rs 10,567 per show. That is not a blockbuster per-show yield, but it can keep screens in play if prime-time occupancies hold. The question for exhibitors is whether off-peak shows justify their fixed costs.

What the box office means for stakeholders

VIBE is Kunal Kemmu’s second film as director after Madgaon Express and his first as a producer. It is also Preity Zinta’s second film of 2026 after Batwara 1947, following a long gap in Hindi theatrical leads after Bhaiaji Superhit in 2018. Those names help awareness, but the opening numbers suggest the film will have to rely on word of mouth and evening-led demand rather than star power alone.

News18 Showsha’s review rated the film 3.5 stars and pointed to its use of popular references and music as reasons for audiences to turn up. That aligns with the evening-skewed occupancy: the film may be working better as appointment viewing than as a planned family morning outing.

For streaming and television buyers, the theatrical trajectory is only one input. A mid-ranking box office run can still translate into a solid OTT premiere if the film builds a loyal core. However, no streaming or non-theatrical deal was reported in this update, and without a verified budget, the Rs 7.45 crore net should be read as a demand signal rather than a profit verdict.

The next checkpoint is Monday. A soft fall would indicate that the weekend’s evening momentum has some staying power. A sharp drop would make the opening weekend look front-loaded and pressure show counts. The Sunday number was an improvement, but the market’s next message will be Monday’s hold.
