Daayra Day 2: Rs 1.60 Cr Net, Total at Rs 2.60 Cr

Daayra, the Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran thriller, added Rs 1.60 crore net in India on its second day across 2,062 shows, according to trade reports. That lifts its two-day India net total to Rs 2.60 crore. Gross India collection stands at Rs 3.10 crore.

The Meghna Gulzar-directed film opened on September 18 with Rs 1 crore net, so day two improved by 60%—but from a very modest base.

Where the audience showed up

Day-two occupancy averaged 20.46% across reported shows. The daypart split tells a clear story:

  • Morning: 8.15%
  • Afternoon: 19.77%
  • Evening: 27.23%
  • Night: 26.69%

Evening and night shows did the bulk of the work. That points to a post-work urban audience sampling the film, while morning and afternoon family slots stay weak.

The screen-level economics

At roughly Rs 7,760 net per show, Daayra is not yet converting its casting into wide demand. The comparison with Kunal Kemmu’s VIBE is the clearer screen-level benchmark: VIBE has collected Rs 4.35 crore net in two days, well ahead of Daayra‘s Rs 2.60 crore over the same period.

The gap between net and gross—Rs 2.60 crore net versus Rs 3.10 crore gross—is a reminder that gross collections include taxes. For media planners and content teams comparing titles, net is the cleaner starting point for what a film actually realizes.

Pedigree versus footfalls

The film has strong production and creative credentials. Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios are backing it, and it is Meghna Gulzar’s third Junglee collaboration after Talvar and Raazi. It also pairs Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran for the first time. Yet early numbers suggest that favourable reviews and a serious thriller pitch have not turned into a box office breakout.

The 20.46% occupancy still leaves substantial unsold inventory across 2,062 shows. A morning occupancy of 8.15% is especially low, indicating that this is not positioned—at least on day two—as a family or matinee title.

What to watch next

For exhibition and distribution teams, the next hold will decide whether Daayra keeps meaningful screen count. If evening and night shows continue to improve, it may still find a word-of-mouth run in premium multiplexes. If the first weekday fall is steep, the theatrical window is likely to be short, and the streaming conversation will arrive sooner for a film with this creative pedigree.
