The U.K. and Ireland box office found a new leader as Warner Bros.’ Practical Magic 2 opened to £2.7 million ($3.7 million), ending the six-week reign of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The result put three new releases at the top of the chart, with Disney’s event-style music film Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger close behind and 20th Century Fox’s thriller Pressure in third. For media planners, the frame is a useful reminder that theatrical demand can refresh quickly even when one blockbuster has been dominating.
Top of the U.K. and Ireland chart
- Practical Magic 2 (Warner Bros.) — $3.7 million opening; No. 1
- Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger (Disney) — $3.5 million debut; No. 2
- Pressure (20th Century Fox) — $2.7 million opening; No. 3
- The Odyssey (Universal) — $1.2 million in its ninth week; $114.3 million total
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Sony) — $1.1 million in its seventh frame; $132.7 million total
The three new openers alone totaled around $9.9 million at the top of the chart, a signal that depth — not just one dominant franchise — is back in the market.
Spider-Man passes franchise benchmarks
Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped to fifth but still cleared a major milestone. Its $132.7 million running total moved it ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avatar, and No Time to Die to become the third-highest-grossing release of all time in the U.K. and Ireland. Only Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Skyfall sit above it.
That matters for franchise planning: even in its seventh week, the film is converting late-cycle interest into a place on an all-time chart that media planners and platform buyers use to benchmark theatrical IP value before windows shift.
Elsewhere in the top 10
Signature Entertainment’s Fall 2 opened sixth with $648,421. Sony’s Insidious: Out of the Further added $619,084 in its fourth week to reach $9.9 million. Runner, starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson, opened eighth with $517,727. Paramount’s 45th-anniversary 4K reissue of Raiders of the Lost Ark took ninth with $326,263, and Coyote vs. Acme closed the top ten in its fourth weekend with $188,463, taking its total to $2.6 million.
What to watch next weekend
Friday’s wide releases are led by Sony’s Resident Evil and Paramount’s Bad Apples, starring Saoirse Ronan, both going out across 300-plus locations. A crowded specialty slate includes Aardman’s Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, Mubi’s Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore?, and event-cinema titles tied to gallery and opera audiences.
For media buyers, the key test is whether the next frame can hold the expansion in market depth, or whether the top of the chart snaps back to a single franchise leader.
