Venkatesh’s AK 47: ₹33.95 cr in, 4x to recover

AK 47 grosses ₹33.95 cr in 2 days, needs 4x more

The weekend trend for Aadarsha Kutumbam House No: 47 is better than its opening day, but the arithmetic is still unforgiving. After two days, the Telugu family drama has grossed ₹33.95 cr worldwide against a reported ₹128 cr production and promotions budget, according to Sacnilk and Bollymoviereviewz figures cited by The Times of India.

Saturday brought growth, not a breakout

Venkatesh Daggubati’s film added ₹10.40 cr net in India on Saturday, up 6.7% from ₹9.75 cr net on Friday. Gross domestic collections rose from ₹11.40 cr to ₹12.20 cr, and show count increased from 3,073 to 3,192. Overall occupancy improved from 44.1% to 48.1%. Night shows were strongest at 68.23%, while morning shows lagged at 25.08%. The per-show average on Saturday was ₹32,581.

The film has accumulated ₹20.15 cr India net and ₹23.60 cr domestic gross. Overseas has contributed ₹10.35 cr gross, including ₹2.75 cr on Saturday. That gives the two-day worldwide gross of ₹33.95 cr.

The recovery math

Here is the core problem for the film’s investors:

  • Reported budget, including promotions: ₹128 cr
  • Two-day worldwide gross: ₹33.95 cr
  • Shortfall to budget: ₹94.05 cr
  • Multiple of current gross still needed: more than 4x

A film’s box-office gross is not what producers keep; theatres take a share, and overseas gross often includes local exhibition costs. So even crossing the budget figure may not mean full recovery. But the simple benchmark used in the trade is whether the gross catches the reported cost, and AK 47 currently sits at about 26.5% of that mark.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana remain the picture’s engine, contributing ₹9.75 cr of Saturday’s tracked domestic gross, or 79.9% of the day. Karnataka added ₹1.70 cr, Tamil Nadu ₹40 lakh, the rest of India ₹33 lakh, and Kerala ₹2 lakh. The second-day growth came with only a marginal increase in shows, so most of the lift came from better attendance. That is a useful signal for exhibitors deciding whether to hold screens through the week.

Why this matters

For buyers, this is a live case study in weekend trajectory versus budget size. A 6.7% Saturday bump is a healthy early signal, but it is not enough when the starting base is small relative to the budget. The next three days will show whether the film has word-of-mouth or just weekend sampling. With a ₹128 cr cost, the movie needs a long tail or a strong overseas run, not just a better Saturday.

Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, the film stars Venkatesh Daggubati, Srinidhi Shetty and Nara Rohith, with Nivetha Pethuraj, Vennela Kishore, Satya Akkala, Rao Ramesh and Brahmaji in supporting roles. The story centres on Chittibabu, Swarna and their household at House No. 47, where buried tensions surface. The box-office numbers are compiled from public and industry sources and may be revised as official studio data is updated.
