Rs 50 lakh Sunday bounce for Titans

The four-day track

Malayalam film Titans, starring Jayasurya and Vinayakan, collected Rs 50 lakh in India net on Sunday, a 19% jump from Saturday’s Rs 42 lakh. It was the strongest single day since the October 22 opening, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India.

Totals so far: Rs 2.22 crore gross and Rs 1.92 crore net in India. Sunday’s 690 shows drew 38,099 viewers; cumulative footfall since release stands at 145,158.

Daily net movement:

  • Day 1, Thursday: Rs 65 lakh (844 shows, 23% occupancy)
  • Day 2, Friday: Rs 35 lakh (758 shows, 15%)
  • Day 3, Saturday: Rs 42 lakh (716 shows, 17%)
  • Day 4, Sunday: Rs 50 lakh (690 shows, 22%)

Why the Sunday bounce matters

The headline number is modest, but the shape is useful. Friday’s drop to Rs 35 lakh looked like a film losing its audience; Saturday and Sunday reversed that. Sunday’s occupancy recovered to 22%, just below the opening day’s 23%.

More telling is what happened per show. The film cut shows from 844 on day one to 690 by Sunday, a common move when first-day demand is soft. Yet Sunday’s take per show was around Rs 7,246, close to the Rs 7,701 opening-day average and well above Saturday’s roughly Rs 5,865. Trimming screens did not shrink collections; it concentrated demand.

Where the audience showed up

Occupancy was uneven by session. Evening shows led at 24.5%, followed by night at 18.25% and afternoon at 16.5%. Morning screenings were effectively empty at 6.17%. The Malayalam 2D version recorded 18.44% overall occupancy on Sunday.

That split matters for programming. A film that depends on one or two evening slots has a ceiling; if morning and afternoon showings stay below 10%, exhibitors may keep trimming shows, which caps the film’s total gross even if per-show averages look healthier.

What to watch next

The real test is the weekday hold. Sunday gave Titans its best day since opening, but a small Malayalam release needs more than one good weekend day to move the needle. Watch whether Monday stays above the Friday low or falls back toward opening-week levels.

For film business teams, Titans is a reminder that raw daily totals can mislead when show counts are sliding. The per-show number and the session split tell you whether demand is actually improving.
