Vibe Leads Daayra After Opening Weekend With ₹6.77 Crore Net

Opening weekend, side by side

Early trade estimates from Sacnilk, cited by Business Standard, put Kunal Kemmu’s action-comedy Vibe ahead of Meghna Gulzar’s crime thriller Daayra through the first three days in India.

Vibe opened Friday at ₹1.70 crore, rose to ₹2.75 crore on Saturday, and collected ₹2.32 crore on Sunday as early numbers. That gives a net weekend of ₹6.77 crore and a gross of ₹8.08 crore. Daayra opened at ₹1 crore, improved to ₹1.75 crore on Saturday, and added ₹1.17 crore on Sunday for a net weekend of ₹3.92 crore and gross of ₹4.68 crore.

  • Vibe: ₹6.77 crore net / 2,839 shows on Sunday / 23% occupancy
  • Daayra: ₹3.92 crore net / 1,839 shows on Sunday / 20% occupancy

Sunday figures are still preliminary; final collections may move slightly.

Why the show-count gap matters

The raw collection gap reflects more than audience preference. Vibe was playing across 2,839 shows on Sunday, roughly 54% more than Daayra’s 1,839 shows. That wider footprint gave Vibe a structural advantage even though both titles posted similar occupancy.

For media planners and distributors, this is a useful checkpoint: in a two-film weekend, comparing net totals without show counts can exaggerate demand. Vibe is collecting more because it is available in more screens and is filling a comparable proportion of them.

What the weekend curve suggests

Both films built from Friday to Saturday, which is healthy for word-of-mouth-driven genres. But early Sunday estimates show a dip for both titles, with Vibe down about 16% from Saturday and Daayra down about 33%. If those numbers hold, Daayra is showing a softer hold into the weekday corridor.

Vibe’s action-comedy pitch and cast—Kunal Kemmu also directs, with Sparsh Shrivastava and Preity Zinta—appears to be converting a broader commercial audience. Daayra, led by Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is built on a legal-versus-vigilante justice story that may rely more on critical word of mouth and metro audiences.

The next number to watch

The opening weekend is only the setup. With Sunday occupancy below 25% for both films, Monday retention is the real test of whether either title can expand beyond an opening-weekend play. A strong Monday hold for Vibe would indicate repeat or spillover demand; a soft Monday for Daayra would make it harder to recover given its smaller show count.

It is also worth treating these as tracker estimates rather than producer-confirmed numbers. Sacnilk’s live data is directionally useful for weekend comparisons, but final distributor figures often adjust when tax and blockbuster holdovers are reconciled.
