Udta Teer added an estimated Rs 2.71 crore net across India on its first Monday, a sharp 67% fall from Sunday’s Rs 8.20 crore. After four days, the Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan spy comedy has collected Rs 22.26 crore net, according to Sacnilk.
The weekend looked stronger than the opening day suggested. The film opened at Rs 4.10 crore on Friday, rose to Rs 7.25 crore on Saturday, and peaked at Rs 8.20 crore on Sunday before the Monday slide.
The Monday number
For exhibitors and distributors, the first Monday is the real test of non-holiday demand. A drop above 60% is steep: it signals that a large part of the weekend business came from the initial audience rush rather than repeat or walk-in demand. The film is currently running in 5,583 shows nationwide, so the hold also depends on whether theatre chains keep those screens through the week.
Day-wise collection:
- Friday: Rs 4.10 crore
- Saturday: Rs 7.25 crore
- Sunday: Rs 8.20 crore
- Monday: Rs 2.71 crore
That Monday hold, not the Sunday peak, is the number media planners and exhibition teams will track over the next three days.
Where the opening sits
Udta Teer’s first-day figure of Rs 4.10 crore sits well below Khurrana’s biggest debuts. His top opener remains Thamma at Rs 24 crore, followed by Dream Girl 2 at Rs 9.75 crore, Dream Girl at Rs 9.50 crore, Bala at Rs 9.25 crore and Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan at Rs 8.75 crore.
Those titles came with franchise equity, a known comic persona or strong pre-release buzz. Udta Teer, as an original spy comedy, is leaning on word of mouth and the Khurrana-Khan pairing instead. The opening-day gap is therefore less alarming than the Monday trajectory.
The film in brief
Udta Teer marks the directorial debut of Akash A Kaushik, previously a writer on Housefull 4, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Khurrana plays a Pakistani spy who loses his memory and wakes up believing he is an Indian Counter-Terrorism Squad officer, a mistaken identity that powers the comedy. Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment produce; Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover are among the supporting cast.
What to watch next
The challenge now is weekday retention against other new releases competing for the same audience. A stabilised Tuesday and Thursday will give the film a chance to build a respectable lifetime; a further double-digit slide would mark it as front-loaded. For marketing teams, the implication is simple: if weekday holds stay weak, paid media and conversion support may need to shift to evening and weekend sessions where walk-ins remain concentrated.
