Netflix has widened its anime bench again. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is now available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand as of October 6, 2026. It is a late arrival in those markets: the series first premiered on Crunchyroll in April 2025, and Netflix already carried it in parts of Asia earlier.
Two seasons, 26 episodes total, are available. The show is a prequel to the main My Hero Academia timeline, following a would-be hero who ends up working with street-level vigilantes outside the licensed pro-hero system.
Where Netflix already had it
- India: April 8, 2025
- South Korea: April 14, 2025
- Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand: October 17, 2025
That split-windowing is the strategic point. Western audiences saw the title as a Crunchyroll first window; several Asian audiences had it on Netflix much earlier. The latest rollout closes that gap.
The number behind the franchise
Netflix’s bi-annual engagement reports, covering January 2023 through June 2026, show why the streamer keeps licensing this IP. Across 14 seasons and movies, My Hero Academia has generated 728.5 million hours viewed and just over 100 million views—despite regional availability gaps.
Season 1 is the most-viewed entry at 18.1 million views. Season 2 leads in watch time at 151.6 million hours. The Vigilantes data, so far, includes only the Asian markets where it was previously available, so the next engagement report should show a meaningful jump.
What this means for streaming and media teams
Anime continues to behave like subscription glue. It is high-intent, binge-prone and fandom-driven. For media planners and entertainment marketers, a late-window anime drop is not just a catalog add; it is a predictable engagement event. Netflix is signaling that licensed anime around a proven franchise is worth continuous investment.
The practical read: do not over-index on first-window exclusivity as the only retention signal. A title can premiere on one platform and still produce top-tier hours on another after the window lapses. For teams budgeting content or campaigns, the engagement reports are the place to spot which library titles are quietly over-performing.
What comes next
There is no Season 3 confirmation for Vigilantes yet. Season 1 aired in spring 2025 and Season 2 in winter 2026, but no renewal followed the Season 2 finale. Studio Bones is occupied with other franchise work, including the 10th anniversary short My Hero Academia: I Am a Hero Too. Enough manga material remains for a return, but the timing is open.
The next two data points to watch: whether the next Netflix engagement report shows the expected Vigilantes lift, and whether a Season 3 renewal gets a different windowing deal.
