Seven Netflix What We Watched engagement reports now cover January 2023 through June 2026. Aggregating them for World Animation Day settles two questions: KPop Demon Hunters is the most-watched Netflix Original animated movie, and The Creature Cases is the most-watched Original animated series.
The ranking uses Netflix’s headline metric – views, or hours viewed divided by total runtime. That makes a short preschool episode and a two-hour film comparable, but it also means long runtimes can depress a title’s view count even when hours are substantial.
The film chart
KPop Demon Hunters sits far ahead with 648.7 million views and 1.08 billion hours across its first two reporting windows. The Sony Pictures Animation release has already become Netflix’s most-watched film of any kind, animated or live action.
- Leo: 241.1 million views
- Back to the Outback: 145.1 million views
- The Sea Beast: 136.7 million views
- Swapped: 130.8 million views
Back to the Outback and The Sea Beast are catalogue stories. Their launch windows predate the reports, so every counted view came from later library watching. Swapped, released in 2026, has had at most one reporting window and is the most likely title to climb next.
The series chart
Series totals are grouped across all seasons, which rewards long-running libraries. The Creature Cases leads with 222.9 million views and 710 million hours. CoComelon Lane follows with 191.2 million views, ahead of Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous (167.8 million), Sonic Prime (142.5 million) and Big Mouth (126.8 million).
What the patterns mean
Nine of the top 15 series are aimed at preschool audiences. The only adult shows in the top 25 are Big Mouth, BoJack Horseman, Disenchantment, Record of Ragnarok and Arcane. On the film side, Sony Pictures Animation accounts for four of the top nine Originals – one reason the partnership keeps paying off.
The views-versus-hours gap matters for planners. Arcane ranks 18th by views despite 434.6 million hours; its episodes run long and there are only 18 of them. If ranked by hours, Arcane would sit eighth. The Seven Deadly Sins shows the same distortion. Read a view rank without runtime or season stacking and you miss the asset’s real behaviour.
Licensed titles are excluded from these charts. CoComelon, Peppa Pig and Masha and the Bear all pass 400 million views, and Paw Patrol approaches nearly 2 billion hours, but those are catalogue rights that belong to other studios. Netflix Originals are the controlled assets here.
Use the metric correctly
For media planners and entertainment marketers, the actionable step is to rank by views, not raw hours, then check runtime and season count before drawing conclusions. A high hours total can be a long library, not a hit; a low view count can be a prestige title with long episodes.
Content buyers should also separate launch demand from library demand. Back to the Outback and The Sea Beast prove that family animation can keep paying years after release, which is a different value from a fast-burning premiere.
