Nayyi Navelli opens at ₹11.55 crore, tops Haq

Yami Gautam and Adinath Kothare’s horror-comedy Nayyi Navelli closed its opening weekend at ₹11.55 crore in India net collections, according to Sacnilk. The film began at ₹3.25 crore on Friday, moved to ₹4 crore on Saturday, and added ₹4.30 crore on Sunday.

Growth is real, but not acceleration

The day-over-day trend is positive without being sharp. Sunday’s ₹4.30 crore was essentially flat against Saturday’s ₹4 crore, and occupancy stayed thin throughout: 11% on Friday across 6,281 shows, then 14% on Saturday across 5,945 shows.

That is the signal worth watching. A weekend total can be flattered by the number of screens a distributor books; occupancy shows whether audiences actually filled them. At 11-14%, the film is pulling thin demand per show. For exhibitors, that means filling capacity below the level that typically justifies holding prime-time slots when newer releases are waiting.

Where it lands in Yami Gautam’s own record

The ₹11.55 crore opening is enough to clear Haq, her previous film, which earned ₹8.95 crore in its first three days. But the stronger titles set a very different benchmark: Article 370 opened at ₹22.9 crore over three days, and OMG 2, where she played a key role, crossed ₹40 crore in the same window.

So the correct read is recovery against a weak base, not a breakout. The film is competing with Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story, Jailer 2 and Ranabaali for the same weekend audience, and it has not separated itself from that pack on per-show demand. A distributor can add screens, but if occupancy does not follow, the second-week screen count will quietly contract, and the total will follow.

Weekdays are the bridge to a lifetime total

Horror-comedies tend to live or die on word of mouth. The 32% lift from Friday to Sunday is workable, but not the spike that normally carries a soft opener into a strong second weekend. The genre has produced sleeper hits, but those hits were built on mid-week hold, not opening-day press. Nayyi Navelli now has to prove it can do exactly that.

Mixed reviews add pressure. Hindustan Times called the film one that “mistakes excess for entertainment and confusion for complexity.” For marketing and distribution teams, the practical read is to not over-index on the weekend topline. Watch Monday’s hold against Saturday’s level: if it holds, the film earns a second-weekend push; if it slides hard, the conversation shifts from expansion to recovery.

  • Friday: ₹3.25 crore at 11% occupancy
  • Saturday: ₹4 crore at 14% occupancy
  • Sunday: ₹4.30 crore; weekend net total ₹11.55 crore
