Jailer 2 has crossed the Rs 800 crore worldwide mark on its 18th day in cinemas, according to early estimates from Sacnilk.com. The Rajinikanth starrer added Rs 11.20 crore net in India on day 18 and now sits at Rs 807.25 crore global gross.
The number makes it the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2026, behind only Dhurandhar: The Revenge. More significantly, its India gross of Rs 533.75 crore has taken it past 2.0 to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time in India.
The day-18 arithmetic
India’s day-18 net estimate of Rs 11.20 crore came from 8,906 shows. The Tamil version remained the engine, contributing Rs 8 crore from 4,287 shows. The Hindi version added Rs 1.75 crore from 3,592 shows, while the Telugu version collected Rs 1 crore from 777 shows and the Kannada version Rs 45 lakh from 250 shows.
- Tamil: Rs 8 crore from 4,287 shows
- Hindi: Rs 1.75 crore from 3,592 shows
- Telugu: Rs 1 crore from 777 shows
- Kannada: Rs 45 lakh from 250 shows
Looking at cumulative totals, India gross stands at Rs 533.75 crore, with India net at Rs 456.30 crore. Overseas added another Rs 3 crore on day 18, taking the overseas gross to Rs 273.50 crore. Combined, the worldwide gross is Rs 807.25 crore.
Why the record matters
Surpassing 2.0 in domestic gross recasts the Tamil box office benchmark. It shows that a Tamil-led action sequel with star equity can out-earn a previous record-holder and compete at the top of the all-India chart. The film also trails only Dhurandhar: The Revenge among Indian releases in 2026.
What screen and media professionals should read
The language split is the useful operational signal. Tamil contributed about 71% of the day-18 India net from just under half the shows, while Hindi added roughly 16% from 40% of shows. That underlines that the Hindi version is meaningful but is not yet the primary revenue driver. For distributors and exhibitors, it suggests screen allocation should be rebalanced show-by-show at the city level rather than relying on a blanket all-India print count.
The film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, is the sequel to 2023’s Jailer. It released worldwide on October 15 and features an ensemble including SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa Menon, with music by Anirudh Ravichander.
For entertainment marketers, the headline is simple: the Rs 800 crore club is no longer an exception for a Tamil title. The next question is whether the film can sustain late-run holds and how quickly the Hindi version’s share grows.
