Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has moved from hit to history chase. The Nelson Dilipkumar action film stood at Rs 463.57 crore net in India as Day 21 live estimates came in, leaving it within sight of the all-time record for a Tamil film.
Day 21: a small number, a large total
Sacnilk’s live estimates, cited by The Times of India, put the Day 21 addition at Rs 52 lakh net from 2,195 shows. The Tamil version accounted for Rs 32 lakh from 925 shows, Hindi added Rs 11 lakh from 1,041 shows, and Telugu brought Rs 9 lakh from 229 shows.
The single-day figure is well below the opening-week pace, but the cumulative sums are what are now under negotiation. India gross had reached Rs 542.26 crore, with final Day 21 numbers expected later in the evening.
- Week 1 net: Rs 334.35 crore
- Week 2 net: Rs 95.55 crore
- Two-week total: Rs 429.90 crore
- Day 21 live addition: Rs 52 lakh
- Total India net: Rs 463.57 crore
- Total India gross: Rs 542.26 crore
Live estimates can move once studio data is reconciled, so the final total may differ slightly from these figures.
The record within reach
The bigger race is structural. Jailer 2 is closing in on becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, and the Rs 223-crore Tamil Nadu record held by Vijay’s LEO is now within reach. For the business, this is more than a fan milestone.
A record title changes the film’s negotiating position. It gives Sun Pictures and its partners a stronger story for satellite, streaming and catalogue licensing, and it resets the benchmark for future Tamil releases.
The third week decides the margin
After Day 15’s Rs 4.25 crore, the film has largely moved between Rs 2.70 crore and Rs 3.40 crore, with Day 18’s Rs 11.20 crore as the exception. The coming days will determine whether Jailer 2 clears the record narrowly or adds meaningful headroom.
The cast includes Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff and Yogi Babu, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. Wider visibility has kept the film active across Tamil, Hindi and Telugu screens even as daily numbers shrink.
For media planners and entertainment marketers, the signal is in the tail. A record-breaker can be marketed as a long-term asset; a front-loaded hit cannot. Jailer 2’s final legs will show which one it becomes.
