Hanuman Ansh Day 55: Rs 2.35 cr; India net Rs 314.63 cr

Vishal Chaturvedi’s Hanuman Ansh collected Rs 2.35 crore net in India on its 55th day, a 21.7% drop from the Rs 3.00 crore it earned on day 54. The Wednesday, September 30 figure came from 4,264 shows with overall occupancy of 15.0%, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India.

The 55-day scorecard

Day 55 takes the India net total to Rs 314.63 crore. India gross stands at Rs 371.65 crore, while overseas markets added Rs 10 lakh on the day and lifted cumulative overseas gross to Rs 39.10 crore. The worldwide gross total now sits at Rs 410.75 crore.

An unusually backloaded run

The weekly India net pattern shows how atypical this title has been.

  • Week 1: Rs 1.08 crore; Week 2: Rs 40 lakh
  • Week 3: Rs 10.40 crore; Week 4: Rs 61.00 crore
  • Week 5: Rs 90.25 crore; Week 6: Rs 80.25 crore; Week 7: Rs 44.80 crore

The film was effectively a non-event for two weeks, then expanded sharply. That pattern points to audience discovery and added screens rather than a marketing-led opening. For entertainment marketers, it means the opening number would have been a poor predictor of lifetime value.

Why the day-55 drop is not the red flag it looks like

The fall from Rs 3.00 crore to Rs 2.35 crore looks steep on a chart, but the operating detail matters. The show count dipped from 4,411 on Tuesday to 4,264 on Wednesday, and occupancy fell from 29.0% to 15.0%. That works out to roughly Rs 55,000 per show against about Rs 68,000 per show a day earlier. A midweek decline in both inventory and attendance at this stage is routine.

Time-slot data shows where the remaining audience sits. The Hindi 2D version recorded 22.54% occupancy in night shows and 19.15% in evening shows, against 6.69% in morning screenings. For programmers and media planners, evening and night inventory is doing the heavy lifting; morning shows are the weak point if screen counts need trimming.

What to watch next

The test is whether Thursday can hold near the day-55 number and whether the weekend lifts the film back above the Rs 2.5-3 crore band. The overseas gross of Rs 39.10 crore is modest against Rs 371.65 crore in India gross, so this remains a domestic-led story.

The film, written, directed and produced by Vishal Chaturvedi, stars Shobhinaw Satyaa as Lakshmi Narayan Sharma, who later becomes Neem Karoli Baba, with Chandan K Anand in the other lead role.
