Cult, Vishwak Sen’s action-horror and psychological thriller, ended its first weekend on an upward slope—then hit the weekday wall. The film collected Rs 55 lakh in India net on Monday, November 2, a 56% fall from Sunday’s Rs 1.25 crore, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India.
The four-day picture
Monday’s showing pulled the Telugu film’s four-day domestic net to Rs 3.90 crore. India gross stands at Rs 4.55 crore, while overseas gross is Rs 65 lakh. That puts worldwide gross at Rs 5.20 crore after four days.
- Friday, October 30: Rs 95 lakh net, 22% occupancy, 1,240 shows
- Saturday, October 31: Rs 1.15 crore net, 26% occupancy, 1,211 shows
- Sunday, November 1: Rs 1.25 crore net, 26% occupancy, 1,156 shows
- Monday, November 2: Rs 55 lakh net, 19.02% occupancy, 1,098 shows
Why the first-Monday fall matters
The 56% drop is a classic first-Monday correction: weekend sampling fades and the film has to prove it can pull audiences on working days. Cult’s per-show average slid to Rs 5,009 across 1,098 shows, and Monday contributed just 14.1% of the four-day India net.
Time-band data shows evening and night shows holding better—20.45% and 21.36% occupancy—against 14.45% in the morning. For distribution and marketing teams, that split suggests the post-work audience is still showing up, while matinees and family slots remain soft. The show count also dipped from 1,156 on Sunday to 1,098 on Monday, so the film is losing screens alongside occupancy.
What Tuesday’s early signal suggests
Advance booking for Tuesday, November 3, offers a tentative stabilisation read. As of 6 am IST, Cult had sold 78,584 tickets across 1,196 shows, with gross advance collection of Rs 95.96 lakh. Advance gross is not final collection, but it indicates the film is still generating ticket-buying interest beyond the weekend.
For entertainment marketers, Cult is a live case study in weekend-to-weekday conversion. A first-Monday drop of more than half is not automatically a verdict—weekend-to-weekday corrections vary by title—but two numbers matter next: whether Tuesday holds near Monday or builds, and whether occupancy climbs back above 20% next weekend. If evening occupancy holds while mornings stay soft, the prudent call is to keep marketing focused on the post-work audience rather than trying to buy family matinees.
Cult is written and directed by Vishwak Sen, who also stars, with Gayatri Bharadwaj, Tarak Ponnappa, Murali Sharma and Srikanth Iyengar in the cast. Ravi Basrur scores the film and Tharun Bhascker handles dialogues.
