Carrie opens at 1.26B minutes, Prime's second-best 2026 debut

Mike Flanagan’s Carrie took the No. 1 spot on Nielsen’s U.S. streaming chart for the week of Oct. 5-11, with 1.26 billion minutes viewed in five days on Prime Video. The Stephen King adaptation premiered Oct. 7, so the total is a launch-window read: a handful of days of sampling, bingeing and word of mouth, not a full-season total.

The audience skew matters for buyers. Adults 18-49 made up 58% of viewing, which suggests a younger demo than the horror genre sometimes carries on ad-supported tiers. Prime Video also confirmed a Season 2 renewal early Thursday, so the chart placement doubles as the first audience proof point for a show already moving to its next cycle.

The launch hierarchy

  • 1.26B minutes: Carrie’s five-day opening, the top overall streaming title.
  • 1.8B minutes: Neagley’s five-day opening, still the only bigger first-season Prime Video launch this year.
  • 952M / 869M / 852M: Scarpetta, Ride or Die and Spider-Noir’s debut windows, and two of those three won’t return.

This is the number to file: Carrie sits above the 850-950 million tier by a healthy margin but well behind Neagley. Prime Video’s first-season decisions are tracking that order. Carrie, Neagley and Scarpetta have been renewed; Ride or Die and Spider-Noir were canceled. If you’re buying or planning around Prime Video, the five-day debut is the common denominator.

What it means for Prime’s slate

With six overall Nielsen No. 1s in eight weeks, five from Reacher, Prime Video is no longer appearing on the chart as a single-title operation. The platform now has a repeatable launch playbook: use a big IP title to front-load a premiere, measure the A18-49 share quickly, and decide renewal before the tail grows.

For media planners, the five-day Nielsen unit is more useful than cumulative season totals when comparing new series. A total like Ted Lasso Season 4’s 5.5 billion minutes over 10 weeks is impressive, but it combines ten episodes and repeat viewing. A five-day debut isolates how fast a title enters the conversation.

Competitive chart check

Netflix’s Canadian monster drama Below came in second for the week with 1.19 billion minutes after its Oct. 8 debut, with 58% of its audience in the 25-64 demo. East of Eden, the Florence Pugh-led limited series, opened to 1.16 billion minutes. That puts three titles above 1.1 billion minutes in the same frame, a tight top tier.

The Big Bang Theory kept its acquired-library hold with 812 million minutes on HBO Max for a 13th straight week, while American Horror Story added 598 million on Hulu and has already secured an early Season 14 renewal.
