AHS: 13 Sets Streaming High With 4M Global Debut

AHS: 13 logs best streaming premiere with 4M views

FX’s internal measurement puts the 13th edition of American Horror Story at a franchise high: roughly 4 million worldwide views in its first four days on Hulu and Disney+. That is the strongest streaming start for a season premiere in the show’s history.

How the number is built

The figure uses the standard streaming views formula: total viewing minutes divided by run time. With the three-episode premiere running just under two hours, the 4 million views translate to 476 million minutes of watch time. The same-day linear broadcast on FX averaged about 378,000 viewers, so streaming generated the overwhelming majority of opening demand.

Why a season 13 premiere matters

Long-running franchises usually see premiere interest decay. This launch did the opposite. The 4 million views are a 50 percent improvement over AHS: Delicate in 2024, and nearly double the two season premieres before that. FX also says it is Ryan Murphy’s biggest launch to date for any of his shows on Hulu and Disney+ that do not get next-day ABC streaming.

For Disney’s streaming business, the win carries platform-level value. A record from an established FX title gives Hulu a promotable franchise moment and reinforces that the FX-to-Hulu pipeline can deliver broad sampling without relying on ABC’s next-day window.

  • 4 million global views in four days, the franchise’s best streaming premiere.
  • 50 percent lift over AHS: Delicate, and nearly double the prior two premieres.
  • 378,000 average same-day linear viewers on FX.
  • 7 billion minutes of full-library streaming in the U.S. between Delicate and 13.

Library demand became launch fuel

The gap between Delicate and 13 lasted more than two years. In that period, U.S. viewers streamed 7 billion minutes of the AHS back catalogue, or about 259 million minutes per month. A returning cast of Angela Bassett, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts and Billie Lourd gives that long-tail audience a reason to come back to the premiere. Nielsen’s top 10 for Sept. 21-27 is due next week, and AHS: 13 is on track to appear.

The global streaming figure and the U.S. same-day linear audience are not a perfect apples-to-apples comparison, but the gap is wide enough that the direction is clear.

What planners should take from it

For media planners and entertainment marketers, the split between 378,000 same-day cable viewers and 4 million streaming views is the actionable signal. Cable is now the awareness layer; Hulu and Disney+ are the conversion event. A library that streams consistently between seasons can be used as a targeting and timing signal for a new cycle.
