OWN Doubles Down on Cheathab With Two-Season Renewal

OWN is locking in its Friday-night unscripted momentum early, ordering two additional seasons of Put a Ring on It: Cheathab before the first season has even aired its finale.

Renewal ahead of the finale

The network has ordered 16 additional episodes across the two new seasons. Production is slated to begin this fall, with the next cycle scheduled to air in 2027. The current season wraps on Sept. 25 as part of OWN’s Friday unscripted block.

The show premiered July 31 and quickly proved durable in a schedule that already carries Belle Collective, OWN’s top Friday title in the same demo.

What the data shows

OWN says Put a Ring on It: Cheathab is averaging a 1.49 live-plus-three-day rating among African American women 25-54. It ranks among the top new unscripted cable series this year in key African American demos, and it is the No. 2 original unscripted cable show on Friday nights among African American women—behind only Belle Collective.

Live-plus-three ratings capture linear viewing plus three days of delayed playback. For cable unscripted, that is often the metric buyers watch because the audience continues to arrive after the first telecast. The concentration here is the story: OWN is not just drawing a broad unscripted audience, it is winning a specific, difficult-to-reach demo.

  • 16 new episodes across two seasons
  • 1.49 L+3 rating among African American women 25-54
  • No. 2 Friday original unscripted cable series in that demo
  • 2027 target for the next season

The format

The show places couples dealing with infidelity in the “Cheathab House,” where they confront the betrayal, date other people, and decide whether to move forward or walk away. Relationship coach Dr. Stacii Jae Johnson guides the process. The series is an extension of Put A Ring On It, which ran for four seasons, and is produced by Will Packer Media and Blink49 Studios.

OWN president Tina Perry said the extension “found a fresh new way into that conversation” and credited the current season’s “urgency and unpredictability” for reinvigorating the franchise while remaining focused on trust, healing and second chances.

Why early renewal matters

For media planners and entertainment marketers, the pickup signals that OWN is treating Cheathab as a continuing Friday-night anchor rather than a one-cycle experiment. A concentrated audience among African American women 25-54 is valuable for targeted cable campaigns, and franchise extensions give advertisers a lower-risk environment for sponsorships and integrated messaging.

Early renewals also help a network package its schedule with confidence. OWN can now sell Friday nights as a stable block with Belle Collective and Put a Ring on It: Cheathab, while producers get enough runway to maintain cast and format quality. That is especially meaningful in reality dating, where churn is high and formats need repeated exposure to build habitual viewing.

What to watch next

The key metric to track when the next cycle airs is whether the show holds its L+3 rating in the same demo after the format’s novelty fades. If it does, OWN has a durable companion for Belle Collective and a stronger case for future unscripted packages.
