Chicken Shop Date Final Season Hits Netflix and YouTube Oct. 2

Netflix and YouTube Share the Final Season

Netflix is adding a YouTube-native interview format to its catalog at the exact moment it matters most: the final season. Chicken Shop Date premieres Oct. 2 on Netflix, YouTube and Amelia Dimoldenberg’s social channels simultaneously—an unusually cooperative licensing structure for a subscription streamer.

What Netflix is buying

The final season is the centerpiece, but Netflix has also licensed past Chicken Shop Date episodes, including interviews with Andrew Garfield, Damson Idris, Central Cee, Sabrina Carpenter, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, and Jack Harlow. That gives the platform a new episode cycle plus a back catalog for viewers who are just discovering the format.

Dimoldenberg launched the show in 2014 and has since produced 115 episodes. The series is a deadpan, flirty talk show filmed in local chicken shops. It began with British rappers and gradually moved up the celebrity ladder to Jennifer Lawrence, Paul Mescal, Cynthia Erivo and Paul McCartney. Chicken Shop Date won the 2022 Streamy Award for best indie series, and Dimoldenberg was named to Time’s inaugural Time100 Creators list in 2025. She has also served as the Academy’s social media ambassador and red carpet correspondent at the Oscars for the past three years.

Dimoldenberg directs and produces under her Dimz Inc. banner. Diara Vassallo Ndiaye and Zoe Dimoldenberg produce alongside her, with Ashleigh Kybert as head of content and social.

The simultaneous-window signal

Netflix is not asking Dimoldenberg to pause her owned distribution. The show goes live on her YouTube and social channels at the same time it lands on Netflix. For entertainment marketers, this is the most important detail in the release. It means the streamer is paying for licensed reach, not absorbing the audience into a walled garden.

Dimoldenberg described the deal as a way to reach more viewers while keeping the show’s direct connection. She said the format is about “connecting directly with people who love the show” and bringing it to “a whole new world of fans without losing our original essence.”

Where this fits in Netflix’s creator strategy

Netflix has been building a creator-licensing pipeline to compete with YouTube, and Chicken Shop Date is another datapoint.

  • Creator-native formats: Netflix is licensing established YouTube formats instead of only developing its own.
  • Library plus premiere: Back episodes provide binge depth while the final season creates an appointment window.
  • Reach without exclusivity: The original channel stays live, which is uncommon for high-value licensing deals.

The company has already picked up food and cooking content from Mythical Kitchen and Nick DiGiovanni, children’s programming such as Danny Go!, and video podcasts. It has also partnered with media brands—including Variety—to license editorial content.

What media buyers should watch

The immediate test is whether Netflix’s recommendation engine introduces Chicken Shop Date to a new cohort without cutting into YouTube watch time. If both platforms see gains, expect more streamers to offer co-exclusive windows for creator IP rather than demanding exclusivity. The metrics to track are minutes per episode, completion, and cross-platform movement after the Oct. 2 launch.
