Skydance’s new content leadership is sorting the combined Paramount+ and HBO pipeline, and the first visible shift could be where prestige dramas live. A month into the post-merger structure, Casey Bloys’ HBO team is reviewing Paramount+ originals, with early conversations about relocating some projects to HBO. Bloys’ portfolio more than doubled when the two content operations combined.
The review is part of a wider realignment announced in late October. Paramount+’s EVP and head of originals Jane Wiseman left the company. Sarah Aubrey added oversight of all Paramount+ programming, and Francesca Orsi was promoted to president of HBO drama series and films.
Which titles are in the conversation
Two upcoming Paramount+ dramas are repeatedly mentioned as natural candidates: Discretion, a legal thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning, and The Best of Us, a 9/11 first responders limited series led by Jeremy Strong. A couple of projects still awaiting formal greenlights are also part of the discussion.
- Status: no series has moved, and all greenlit Paramount+ titles remain on Paramount+ for now.
- Process: Aubrey and Orsi are reviewing the slate together.
- Possible outcome: Orsi could oversee Paramount+ dramas that stay on Paramount+ but carry HBO’s prestige positioning.
Deadline reports the talks have reached senior levels, but there have been “no migrations” yet.
Why placement is a business decision
This is not merely a branding question. HBO Max and Paramount+ attract different audience expectations and ad environments, and Skydance co-CEO David Ellison has said the two services will eventually become one platform. Before that happens, deciding which titles are labeled HBO shapes buyer perception, programming budgets and the value of each slate.
Paramount+’s drama output is broad, led by the Taylor Sheridan universe and supported by next-day CBS procedurals and comedies. HBO’s brand promise sits in a narrower prestige lane. The current review appears designed to put projects with HBO DNA under HBO’s creative and strategic lens, even if they do not physically move.
What to watch for media planners
For entertainment marketers and media buyers, the key signal is whether relocation or shared oversight starts before the platforms formally merge. If a title migrates to HBO, it brings a different ad placement context and likely a different audience target. If it stays on Paramount+ with Orsi involved, the title may get HBO-style marketing heft inside a broader streaming bundle.
The review is early, and sources stress no decisions have been made. For now, the practical takeaway is caution: schedules, launch windows and pitch lists can change as the two brands align. Both moves would matter because they preview how Skydance will allocate content, brand and ad inventory across a combined service.
