Sony LIV has revealed the first look of Scam 2010, the next instalment in its Scam franchise, and set a January 2027 premiere on the platform. Hansal Mehta, who directed Scam 1992, returns to helm, with Siddharth Bodke in the lead. Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment produce.
The series follows the 2020 breakout Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, which won wide audience appreciation and made the Scam name one of Indian streaming’s recognised titles.
Why the date matters more than the first look
This announcement carries no audience numbers, so the signal is the scheduling itself. By putting January 2027 on the calendar now, Sony LIV gives media planners and entertainment marketers a concrete window to brief campaigns, build sponsor packages and align promotion with the early-year viewing period.
For the streamer, the move reads as a sequencing play. Rather than rush a follow-up, Sony LIV is slotting the title into its early-2027 slate and using the Scam legacy as the entry point for marketing. The first look is a low-cost awareness trigger; the heavier spend logically follows closer to launch.
The franchise question
The harder test is whether the brand travels. Scam 1992 earned its place on word of mouth and a strong lead performance; a sequel inherits that goodwill but has to convert it again. Bodke described the role as “one of the most challenging and special experiences” of his career, and said understanding the man behind the image shaped his preparation.
For the business side, that challenge translates into one metric: whether the title moves subscribers and holds them after launch.
What to watch
- The audience promise: keep the franchise’s financial-crime hook front and centre rather than selling star power alone.
- The window: January 2027 is a tentpole for planners, not just a launch date.
- The benchmark: track early signals against Scam 1992‘s reception, not just its name.
