Seven days in, Kerala’s box office is running on small totals and thin weekday holds. Jayasurya and Vinayakan’s fantasy drama Titans has grossed Rs2.82 crore in India, while Sreenath Bhasi’s Orijinal stands at Rs70 lakh after six days, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India. Set in Fort Kochi, Titans follows two roommates whose planned final job goes wrong.
Week one: Titans slips from its Sunday high
Titans added Rs13 lakh from 554 shows on Wednesday, down 13.3% from Tuesday’s Rs15 lakh. Its India net total is Rs2.44 crore, with the India gross at Rs2.82 crore. The film opened on October 22 and peaked on Sunday at Rs52 lakh in domestic net collection. Tuesday recorded 10,424 footfalls, taking the cumulative theatre count to 187,425.
The occupancy gap tells the story
The Malayalam 2D version of Titans recorded 9.70% overall occupancy. The split by slot matters more than the daily headline:
- Morning shows: 3%
- Afternoon shows: 6.91%
- Evening shows: 9.73%
- Night shows: 9.91%
That spread shows the night audience is doing much of the work. At Rs13 lakh across 554 shows, the implied average is roughly Rs2,350 per show, which makes every near-empty morning show a programming cost.
Orijinal: a lower floor from day one
Directed by Ramees, Orijinal earned over Rs5 lakh on day six. Its total gross is Rs70 lakh and its India net is Rs63 lakh. The film opened at Rs18 lakh on October 23, held Rs13 lakh for the next two days, then fell to Rs7 lakh on Monday and Tuesday.
What the numbers mean for the trade
Neither film is a breakout, but low competition in Mollywood has kept them on screens. Titans has the clearer audience signal: a Rs52 lakh Sunday peak and night shows at 9.91% show it can draw footfalls when the slot is right. Orijinal, with an Rs18 lakh start and a fall to Rs7 lakh by Monday, has a weaker hold.
For exhibitors and distribution teams, the sensible move is to protect the showtimes that work and question weak morning slots. For media planners, the slot-level view is more useful than the week-one headline. The second weekend will reveal whether either title builds a tail or exits quietly.
