Paramount Television Studios has signed writer-producer Bash Doran to an exclusive overall deal, giving the studio first claim on her next projects through Pete’s Uncle, the company she runs with producing partner Mallory Baysek.
The agreement was negotiated before the close of Paramount’s merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. It lands with Doran already holding active projects on both sides of the newly combined company, which makes the signing more than a standalone talent announcement.
Three greenlights in a shrinking market
In a TV marketplace where buyers are cutting risk, Doran picked up three greenlights over the past year or so:
- Fear Not: a six-episode straight-to-series order at Paramount+, starring Anne Hathaway and produced by MGM Television.
- How to Survive Without Me: a 15-episode HBO Max series produced by Warner Bros. Television, with Greg Berlanti showrunning and Doran executive producing. The cast includes Ray Romano, Kaley Cuoco and Joshua Jackson.
- Foster Dade: a pilot pickup at Hulu, developed in collaboration with Berlanti.
A six-episode order and two pilot pickups is a meaningful signal for a writer-producer in a contracted market. The HBO Max project then converted to a 15-episode order, giving the slate a longer episodic runway than the limited series.
Why an overall deal is a pipeline bet
An overall deal is not a single-show transaction. It is development capacity: the studio pays to house a creator and gets first claim on the next wave of ideas. Doran’s credits span Channel 4 and Netflix’s Traitors, Hulu’s The Looming Tower, Netflix’s Beef, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and the Netflix film Outlaw King. Her upcoming feature Henry, financed by StudioCanal and starring Ralph Fiennes, is shooting this year.
“Bash is a master storyteller whose work is audacious, bold, and singular,” said Matt Thunell, President of Paramount Television Studios. Doran said the deal gives her “the resources to build my slate at a single home” and pursue what she described as “the epic, the intimate and timeliness.”
What media buyers should watch
No premiere dates were announced, but the package already tells planners where premium drama inventory is forming. How to Survive Without Me carries a 15-episode order and high-visibility cast, while Fear Not arrives with Anne Hathaway at Paramount+. Both are the kind of star-led titles that typically anchor streaming planning discussions, especially as platforms push harder into premium ad-supported viewing.
For media planners, the practical step is to separate these projects from ordinary development chatter. They already have orders, episode counts and lead casting, which means they are closer to a buyer conversation than most talent-deal headlines.
The deal also places Doran on a PTVS roster that includes the creators of Yellowjackets, The Wheel of Time and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Even during consolidation, proven writer-producers remain among the scarcest inputs in scripted television.
