Disney+ is bringing a U.K. broadcaster inside its app. From early 2027, Channel 4 will operate a branded section on Disney+ in the U.K. and Ireland, with the linear HD channel and a large on-demand catalogue folded into the standard subscription at no added cost.
What the deal includes
The arrangement will make multiple new Channel 4 shows available on Disney+ day-and-date with their Channel 4 premiere each year. Titles mentioned in the announcement include the Bella Ramsey drama Maya, the Denise Welch comedy Stepping Up and the reality format Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
- Channel 4’s linear HD channel inside a branded Disney+ section
- Hundreds of hours of scripted and unscripted on-demand programming
- Multiple new Channel 4 titles arriving day-and-date every year
- No additional charge beyond the existing Disney+ subscription
Disney says the pact is one of its most significant local content deals globally. It is part of a run of about ten similar broadcaster partnerships since the company first tested the model with ITVX last year. That move followed Netflix’s agreement in France to put TF1 channels in front of its own subscribers.
Why local aggregation is the point
For streaming and TV planners, the strategic signal is aggregation. Global platforms have scale; local broadcasters have cultural relevance and scheduling. Putting Channel 4 inside Disney+ turns a national channel into a retention feature: something subscribers keep rather than something they toggle away to find.
Priya Dogra, Channel 4’s chief executive, said the partnership helps its shows “reach viewers in new places.” Adam Smith, Disney Entertainment’s chairman of direct-to-consumer, said local broadcaster partnerships are central to building libraries and serving fans around the world.
What to watch
The early 2027 launch is a clean test. Media planners should track whether Channel 4 viewing lifts engagement among U.K. and Irish Disney+ accounts, and whether day-and-date titles add incremental reach or simply shift viewing from Channel 4’s own platforms. Treat the hub as a retention product first and an inventory addition second.
