Jailer 2 passes Monday test with Rs 710 crore worldwide

Jailer 2 cleared its Day 11 Monday test, adding Rs 25.70 crore net in India and crossing the Rs 710 crore worldwide gross mark, according to figures reported by The Economic Times.

Day 11 in numbers

The film ran across 11,954 shows in India on Monday. Collections were led by the Tamil version, with Hindi and Telugu adding smaller but meaningful sums.

  • Tamil: Rs 17.35 crore net from 5,683 shows
  • Telugu: Rs 4.50 crore from 1,860 shows
  • Hindi: Rs 3.15 crore from 4,195 shows
  • Kannada: Rs 70 lakh from 216 shows

After Day 11, Jailer 2 has a net India total of Rs 398.70 crore. Domestic gross stands at Rs 466.85 crore. Overseas added Rs 10 crore on Monday, taking overseas gross to Rs 243.50 crore; combined worldwide gross now sits at Rs 710.35 crore.

Why the Monday hold matters

This is the second Monday of the film’s run, a working day after the opening and second weekend. Early days often reflect advance booking and fan-driven urgency; a later Monday shows whether general audiences are still choosing the film. For a star vehicle like Jailer 2, that hold is a more durable demand signal than the opening day alone.

Exhibitors also kept the release wide, with nearly 12,000 shows. That is a practical vote of confidence: screens are allocated to films that are still converting ticket buyers, especially in the Tamil circuit.

Reading the regional mix

Jailer 2 is not one box-office story but several. The Tamil version delivered Rs 17.35 crore from 5,683 shows, the core market’s strong hold. Telugu added Rs 4.50 crore from 1,860 shows, Hindi Rs 3.15 crore from 4,195 shows, and Kannada Rs 70 lakh from 216 shows.

For entertainment marketers and media planners, the takeaway is to plan language-level campaigns rather than treat the release as one national event. Hindi performance, while smaller, still matters for satellite and digital licensing because it extends the film beyond the core Tamil audience.

The sequel’s commercial shape

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 continues the story of retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian and an idol-smuggling threat. The sequel brings back actors from the 2023 original and introduces Vidya Balan. Balan said she was drawn to the film partly because of her Tamil background: “I’m a Tamilian, I’m excited about Jailer 2.”

The commercial question now is consistency through the second week. If the film maintains this pace, it strengthens its position for the next set of negotiations: streaming windows, satellite rights and overseas distribution deals all price a film differently when it shows staying power.
