Abhishek Pathak’s Drishyam The Conclusion, tracked widely as Drishyam 3, collected Rs 1.25 crore net on its fourth Friday, taking its 22-day India cume to Rs 350.25 crore. The milestone is real, but the sharper data point is the hold: the Friday number was down 60 per cent from the previous Friday, according to Pinkvilla trade estimates.
That fourth-Friday fall effectively closed the gap between a good finish and a great one. Trade trackers now expect the film to end around Rs 365 crore net, not the Rs 375 crore that had seemed within reach. In the first week, the same projections had briefly signalled a domestic run above Rs 400 crore.
To move from Rs 350 crore after 22 days to Rs 375 crore by the end of the run would have required the kind of late-week holds that did not materialise. The 60 per cent Friday-on-Friday drop made that path untenable.
Why the second week mattered more than the first
A strong opening monetises pre-release awareness and advance tickets. A leggy second and third week monetises word-of-mouth and late adopters. Drishyam 3’s curve shows both sides: the opening was strong enough to make it Ajay Devgn’s biggest grosser, but the second-week slide removed the chance of a much larger total.
- 22-day India net cume: Rs 350.25 crore
- Fourth Friday: Rs 1.25 crore, down 60 per cent from previous Friday
- Expected close: around Rs 365 crore net
- Status: biggest grosser for Ajay Devgn
The film is now in its final legs. It is expected to keep adding in cinemas until Ramayana releases, but the upside from here is narrow.
What this means for screen marketers
For OTT and theatrical campaign teams, the lesson is not only about this one title. It is about treating opening-week pace as a signal, not a straight line. A 60 per cent Friday-on-Friday decline at week four tells you the film is behaving more like a front-loaded event than a word-of-mouth holdover.
The practical move is to plan second-week retention before release: identify late-adopter audiences, refresh mid-run creative, and keep re-cut hooks ready. Once the drop is visible in Friday numbers, reactivating interest is far more expensive.
