Australian legal comedy Fisk will return for a fourth season in 2027, the ABC confirmed at its upfront showcase. Creator and star Kitty Flanagan says Helen Tudor-Fisk will keep the ‘same brown suit and will definitely not be falling in love or getting married.’ The renewal itself was expected. The more useful question for streamers and buyers is when the episodes reach Netflix.
The timing math is getting tighter
Netflix does not own Fisk; it licenses seasons after the ABC’s local run. Season 1 premiered on ABC in March 2021 and hit Netflix only in August 2023, because Netflix picked it up later. Season 2 launched on ABC in October 2022 and landed on Netflix in December 2023, roughly a 13-month gap. Season 3 premiered on ABC in late 2024 and arrived on Netflix on 20 August 2025, shrinking the wait to about 8–9 months.
- Season 1: ABC March 2021 → Netflix August 2023
- Season 2: ABC October 2022 → Netflix December 2023
- Season 3: ABC late 2024 → Netflix 20 August 2025
Apply that pattern to a 2027 ABC premiere and Netflix is looking at late 2027 in the best case, and mid-2028 if the ABC runs it mid-to-late in the year. Netflix has not announced a Season 4 acquisition; the streamer typically does not comment on licensing deals. But its consistency with the past three seasons makes a new deal likely once distribution begins.
Why a licensed comedy matters to the business
For Netflix, acquired comedies like Fisk are a different asset from a splashy original. They arrive cheaper, usually with a built-in audience outside the US, and they deepen the catalogue without a heavy marketing lift. Media planners should see them as steady inventory rather than launch-week spikes. For the ABC, the arrangement preserves first-run exclusivity in Australia while monetising global demand through ABC Commercial.
The third season’s move into Netflix’s top 10 charts showed the title can convert a low-key broadcast hit into a discoverable streaming title. Season 4 is likely to follow the same route: local premiere, a holding window, then international distribution. The core ensemble is returning, including Julia Zemiro, Marty Sheargold, Aaron Chen, Glenn Butcher and John Gaden, with Flanagan writing alongside her sister Penny Flanagan and Tom Peterson co-directing.
What to watch next
The first signal will be the ABC’s precise Season 4 broadcast date. An early-2027 slot points to a late-2027 Netflix window; a later slot pushes to 2028. Until then, buyers should avoid locking campaigns around a Netflix premiere date that does not exist yet. The safest planning assumption is a mid-2028 international release, with the chance of an earlier drop if the ABC moves fast.
