Vizio WatchFree+ hours jump 58% as OS hits 32M devices

Walmart-owned Vizio used Advertising Week in New York to reposition WatchFree+ as a programmer, not just a free streaming tab. The company is adding an original holiday film, library programming from major studios and more than 40 creator-led FAST channels. The data behind the push: Vizio’s operating system now reaches 32 million yearly active devices, up 20% year over year, and WatchFree+ viewing hours are up 58%.

A holiday original with a built-in sponsor

Vizio said Jingle Bells Wedding Bells, starring Rachel Bilson and Scott Foley, will premiere exclusively on WatchFree+ this holiday season. ITV America Nashville and Happy Accidents are producing, and Geico is the presenting sponsor of the premiere.

Arianna Orpello, Geico’s chief marketing officer, framed the deal as a response to changing viewing, giving brands “new ways to connect with audiences.” That is the real product here: a sponsor attached to a single original title, not just a pre-roll buy.

More library and creator inventory

WatchFree+ already carries more than 45,000 film and TV titles and more than 400 live and local channels. The fall slate extends existing relationships with MGM, NBCUniversal, Disney, A&E and A24, and adds titles including:

  • The Good Doctor, Chicago Fire and Law & Order
  • Property Brothers and Little House on the Prairie
  • more than 40 creator-led FAST channels across comedy, food, gaming, family, lifestyle, sports and travel

Creators fronting channels include MrBeast, Celine Dept, Hot Ones, The Royalty Family, Ben Azelart, Ryan Trahan, Nick DiGiovanni, Preston Playz, Rebecca Zamolo, Sam and Colby, and Uncle Roger. A creator-led series, Holiday Chocolate Workshop, will follow chocolatier Amaury Guichon and his team as they build large-scale holiday pieces.

Why the numbers matter

Since Vizio went private under Walmart in 2024, it has not regularly released viewership data. Wednesday’s disclosure is a signal to advertisers: the OS has enough devices and WatchFree+ has enough engagement to be planned as a standalone ad-supported environment.

Vizio’s stated logic is also a challenge to YouTube. The company wants to retain viewers inside WatchFree+, where ad returns are stronger for stakeholders, before they slip to a platform that does not offer the same economics.

What to do with this

Media planners should treat this as a test case for how retail-scaled streaming platforms package inventory. Geico’s presenting sponsorship of an original premiere is a format worth copying: one brand, one title, one moment, rather than scattered impressions. The creator FAST channels offer audience segments already organised by genre and creator fandom, which makes them easier to brief against.

The forward-looking question is whether Vizio can sustain an original slate after the holiday one-off. The device scale is there; the content pipeline is only now taking shape.
