Vibe Opens at ₹1.29 Crore, Trails Madgaon Express Day 1

Kunal Kemmu’s action-comedy Vibe opened to a modest ₹1.29 crore net in India, according to early estimates from Sacnilk. The Friday release played across 3,194 shows and recorded an overall occupancy of 12%.

A slow start that improved through the day

Occupancy moved from 6% in morning shows to 11.31% in the afternoon and 14% in the evening. The trend is mildly positive, but the absolute numbers remain soft for a wide release.

Among metros, Delhi NCR led with 13% occupancy from 440 shows. Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad each recorded 11%, while Mumbai stood at 11% from 328 shows.

Opening-day comparisons

  • Vibe day 1: ₹1.29 crore net; 12% occupancy
  • Madgaon Express day 1 (2024): ₹1.50 crore net
  • Ek Din day 1: ₹1.15 crore net
  • Main Vaapas Aaunga day 1: ₹1.15 crore net

Kunal Kemmu’s previous directorial, Madgaon Express, opened at ₹1.50 crore in 2024 and later found an audience after its OTT release. Vibe has not matched that opening-day number, even though it has narrowly edged past Ek Din and Main Vaapas Aaunga.

What the numbers mean for release strategy

For media planners and distribution teams, the opening day is a signal, not the verdict. A 12% occupancy on 3,194 shows means capacity is available. The day-part improvement matters, but an 8-percentage-point swing from morning to evening is a modest lift rather than a breakout response.

The film pairs Kunal Kemmu with Sparsh Shrivastava and Preity Zinta in a story about two friends caught up in an Indian intelligence mission. Hindustan Times critic Rishabh Suri gave it 3 stars and highlighted a first half with enough laughs, but noted the second half loses some of its easy charm. That review pattern suggests word of mouth will depend on how audiences weigh the film’s first half against its later twists.

“The result is a film that is at its best when it is simply VIBE-ing.”

The first Saturday and Sunday occupancy will now show whether the evening improvement converts into a broader audience pull, or whether Vibe becomes another title whose real value is realised later on streaming.
