Udta Teer has crossed ₹28.65 crore in India after six days in theatres. The more important signal for the trade is the floor it is holding in midweek with discounted tickets. Wednesday added ₹2.65 crore, according to Sacnilk, leaving the Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan spy comedy on track for a week-one finish near ₹31 crore before the Diwali calendar tightens.
The six-day curve
The film opened at ₹4.10 crore on Friday, climbed through the weekend, and then began the standard correction for a star-led comedy.
- Friday: ₹4.10 crore
- Saturday: ₹7.25 crore
- Sunday: ₹8.20 crore — the highest single-day total so far
- Monday: ₹3.20 crore
- Wednesday: ₹2.65 crore
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted that Tuesday stayed on par with Monday, with a buy-one-get-one ticket offer supporting footfalls.
“Udta Teer remains on par with Monday on Tuesday, with the discounted ticket offer boosting footfalls,” Adarsh wrote.
By arithmetic, reaching that projected ₹31 crore week-one mark would require a Thursday of roughly ₹2.35 crore — close to Wednesday’s number and exactly the kind of stability distributors look for before a major release.
Why the floor matters more than the peak
The Sunday-to-Monday correction is steep. Collections dropped about 61 per cent from the ₹8.20 crore peak, a reminder that good reviews do not guarantee a long tail. The more useful evidence is the Tuesday-to-Wednesday pattern. Instead of another sharp step down, the film is holding near ₹2.65 crore with pricing support. That changes the lifetime projection: a title that collapses on its first Tuesday can lose theatres quickly, while a stable midweek run can survive until the next big opener.
For media planners and marketing teams, this is a retention story. Weekend audiences are showing up, but midweek demand is being manufactured by the BOGO offer. The immediate job is to protect that floor, not chase a second-weekend surge the calendar will not allow.
The BOGO playbook is simple: a midweek one-day discount can keep occupancies respectable and hold screens, but it should be tracked separately from organic demand in internal dashboards. For a film with a one-week runway, that distinction decides how much second-week marketing spend is justified.
One week before Ramayana
The release calendar is the hard ceiling. Adarsh points to Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana arriving on 5 November, which gives Udta Teer one more week to collect before screens and premium shows are redeployed. That makes the second Friday to Sunday window the last meaningful chance for growth.
The film is the fourth collaboration between Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment after The Lunchbox, Kill and Gyaarah Gyaarah, and a directorial debut for Akash A Kaushik. In that context, a fair week-one result is tied directly to the discount lever — useful defensively, but not a sign of organic expansion.
