The week-three story for Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is now about screen retention, not discovery. On day 21, the film added Rs 13 lakh in India net, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India. The gross for the day was Rs 16 lakh, from 248 shows and an overall occupancy of 14 percent.
Show count and occupancy are falling together
The day-21 result is the latest step in a rapid four-day slide. On third Saturday, the film played 311 shows and collected Rs 33 lakh net at 29 percent occupancy. Sunday dropped to Rs 24 lakh net from 292 shows at 25.7 percent. Monday added Rs 22 lakh net from 266 shows at 20 percent. By Tuesday, the show count was down to 248 and occupancy had fallen to 14 percent.
That is a 20 percent cut in the screening footprint between Saturday and Tuesday. The occupancy percentage halved in the same window. For exhibition and distribution teams, this is the clearest sign that Toxic has shifted from “hold” to “tail.” At 14 percent occupancy, the film is no longer defending its allocated screen time effectively, and theatres are likely to favour new releases.
First-week heft is carrying the total
Toxic has now collected Rs 249.37 crore in India net. The first week contributed Rs 239.30 crore, or about 96 percent of the India net total. The second week added only Rs 8.94 crore. In gross terms, the film’s tracked first week was Rs 285.70 crore, followed by a Rs 10.59 crore second week.
The worldwide gross stands at Rs 341.39 crore, with Rs 297.64 crore from India and Rs 43.75 crore from overseas. Karnataka remains the strongest southern territory at Rs 78.99 crore gross, followed by Andhra Pradesh/Telangana at Rs 33.54 crore and Tamil Nadu at Rs 13.24 crore.
What the tail tells media planners
- First week: Rs 239.30 crore net, Rs 285.70 crore gross from tracked territories.
- Second week: Rs 8.94 crore net, Rs 10.59 crore gross.
- Day 21: Rs 13 lakh net, Rs 16 lakh gross, 248 shows, 14 percent occupancy.
- Overseas gross: Rs 43.75 crore, about 13 percent of worldwide gross.
The numbers are a useful benchmark for star-led releases. A Rs 239-crore first week can deliver a Rs 249-crore India net even when the second week adds under Rs 9 crore. But with show counts falling quickly, the exhibition window is closing. For media planners, the faster decay means theatrical co-branding and in-cinema advertising windows should be concentrated around the opening week rather than a month-long run.
The film is set in Goa under Portuguese colonial rule and follows Raya, played by Yash, as he builds a criminal empire with his sister Ganga, played by Nayanthara. Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria and Huma Qureshi also feature. The casting and scale explain the opening; the week-three data explains how quickly the runway ends.
