Seven for seven
The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny converted every one of its seven Emmy nominations into a win on Night 1 of the Emmys, the ceremony formerly branded as the Creative Arts Emmys. That makes it the most-awarded Super Bowl halftime show in the history of the awards, and it hands the Puerto Rican artist his first Emmy.
The headline prize was Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Only one other halftime show has ever taken that category: the 2022 edition with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent. Bad Bunny’s win is also the first time a Spanish-language programme has won it.
The rest of the haul was craft-side, and that is the part media professionals should read closely. Wins came in directing, music direction, choreography, sound mixing, lighting design, technical direction and camerawork — effectively a clean sweep of the disciplines that make a live 13-minute set work on television. The performance leaned on Puerto Rican imagery and Latin music, with guest appearances including Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.
Why a halftime show winning craft Emmys matters
Halftime is no longer a break in the broadcast; it is a standalone content property with its own sponsor, its own production budget and its own downstream life on streaming and short-form video. When the TV Academy hands seven trophies to a 13-minute segment, it is confirming what ad buyers already suspected: the halftime slot is being produced to the standard of a premium special, not a stadium interlude.
That has practical consequences:
- Sponsor value compounds. A branded halftime property that collects awards gets a second and third news cycle long after the game’s ratings are filed.
- Language is not a ceiling. A Spanish-language performance winning the top live variety category on the biggest English-language broadcast in the United States is a hard data point for anyone still treating non-English content as a niche buy.
- Craft categories signal repeat investment. Directing, camerawork and technical direction wins tell you the production spend is being noticed, which typically pushes the next year’s budget up rather than down.
The wider Bad Bunny run
The Emmy caps a period that already included a first: Debí Tirar Más Fotos became the first Spanish-language album to win the Grammy for Album of the Year seven months earlier. Bad Bunny also picked up a second Emmy-winning credit on the night, as the Saturday Night Live season opener he hosted won Outstanding Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program.
His pipeline continues. His track “EoO” features in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Deadline has previously reported he is set to star in Porto Rico, the upcoming film from fellow Puerto Rican artist Residente. For distributors and marketers, that is a single talent asset now operating across live event TV, sketch comedy, recorded music and theatrical film — the kind of cross-format reach that is difficult to buy and easy to underprice.
The other results worth logging
Sabrina Carpenter won her first Emmy as executive producer and performer on The Muppet Show, which took Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) plus three more awards. That puts her halfway to an EGOT after two 2025 Grammy wins, for Best Pop Solo Performance (“Espresso”) and Best Pop Vocal Album (Short n’ Sweet).
The same category delivered the night’s biggest shutout: Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show lost to The Muppet Show, leaving Swift with zero wins from five Night 1 nominations. Concert films remain commercially formidable and awards-fragile — a reminder that box office and viewership performance and craft recognition run on separate tracks.
Bad Bunny’s own framing of the moment was brief. “The only thing more powerful than hate is love,” he said on stage, per Deadline. Voters, judging by the scoreline, agreed.
