Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma is playing out as a first-weekend story. The Tamil heist action comedy has collected Rs 8.32 crore in India net collections over its first eight days, with worldwide gross at Rs 9.44 crore across 11,155 shows, according to Sacnilk figures cited by The Times of India.
The total looks respectable at first glance, but the daily curve tells a sharper tale.
A heavily front-loaded first week
The film opened on October 2, 2026, with Rs 2.70 crore gross and Rs 2.35 crore net — still its highest daily gross of the run. Saturday and Sunday added Rs 1.70 crore gross each. That pushed the opening weekend to Rs 6.10 crore gross.
Weekday momentum faded quickly. Monday brought Rs 90 lakh gross, Tuesday Rs 85 lakh, Wednesday Rs 80 lakh and Thursday Rs 70 lakh. The first week closed at Rs 8.23 crore gross.
- Opening weekend gross: Rs 6.10 cr
- First-week gross: Rs 8.23 cr
- Eight-day India net: Rs 8.32 cr
- Day 8 reported net: Rs 9 lakh
On its second Friday, October 9, the film reported Rs 9 lakh in gross and net. That is not a holdover figure; it is a signal the theatrical run is winding down.
Show counts are the real story
Occupancy started at 31.1% across 1,813 shows on opening day, then moved between 22.6% and 23.6% over the weekend. Weekday occupancy settled at 17-18%.
The sharper number is screen allocation. Sigma fell from 1,249 shows on Thursday to 202 shows on its second Friday, with occupancy at 18.8%. Exhibitors are cutting screens quickly, and that matters more than the cumulative total.
Why this matters for film-business teams
For media planners and distributors, Sigma is a clean example of front-loading: initial interest converted into a strong opening day, not into sustained theatrical demand. The cast — Sundeep Kishan in the lead, with Faria Abdullah, Raju Sundaram and Sampath Raj — did not change the second-weekend arithmetic.
The plot, about a radio host pulled into illegal gambling by family debt, had narrative hooks. But the data suggests the audience sampled the debut and did not spread the word strongly enough to keep screens full.
What to watch next
Unless Day 9 and Day 10 post a surprise reversal, expect further screen cuts. The key metric now is how much of the eventual total came from the first three days. For a debut director, that front-loaded share is a better read than the worldwide gross headline.
