Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma did not get the one thing an opening weekend needs most: a Sunday surge. The action-crime thriller collected Rs 1.50 crore net in India on October 4, exactly the same as its Saturday figure, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India. That leaves the three-day India net at Rs 5.35 crore and the gross at Rs 6.10 crore.
Cumulative footfalls reached 515,512 after 149,651 admissions were added on Day 3.
A weekend that started fast, then stalled
The film opened at Rs 2.35 crore on Friday from 1,813 shows with 31.1% occupancy. Saturday dropped to Rs 1.50 crore from 1,802 shows at 22.6% occupancy. Sunday held at Rs 1.50 crore from 1,753 shows at 23.6% occupancy.
A 36% Friday-to-Saturday fall, followed by no recovery on Sunday, points to a demand ceiling rather than a distribution problem. The film kept enough screens, but occupancy did not climb meaningfully.
The absence of a Sunday bump matters because Sunday is usually the strongest day of an opening weekend, when families and casual moviegoers enter the mix. A flat Sunday below Friday means the film is not widening its audience after the initial sampling.
The numbers by language
This is currently a Tamil-market story, not a pan-South break-out. The Tamil version collected Rs 95 lakh from 893 shows at 27.0% occupancy. The Telugu version contributed Rs 55 lakh from 860 shows at 20.0% occupancy.
- Tamil 2D overall occupancy: 37.95%. Afternoon peaked at 47.25%; night was 26.17%.
- Telugu 2D overall occupancy: 17.80%. Night shows were the weakest slot at 11.20%.
State-wise gross underlines the same split: Tamil Nadu generated Rs 95 lakh on Sunday, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana added Rs 60 lakh, Karnataka Rs 9 lakh and Kerala Rs 5 lakh. The combined state gross for the day was Rs 1.70 crore.
Why media and distribution teams should watch weekdays
For exhibitors, the trimmed show count—down from 1,813 on Friday to 1,753 on Sunday—shows that screens are already being reallocated. For media planners, the timepart data offers a clear targeting cue: Tamil Nadu matinee is the warm pocket, while Telugu nights are cold.
The next two days will determine whether Sigma is a niche title that holds among its core audience or a one-weekend film that fades quickly. The flat Sunday says caution, not a breakout call.
