Suriya’s Tamil film Scene added ₹18.46 crore on its second day in cinemas, taking its two-day India cume to ₹37.61 crore. That is a step down from the ₹19 crore-plus opening day, but enough to move past Vishwanath & Sons, which stood at ₹37.60 crore at the same point.
The more demanding benchmark is Karuppu, Suriya’s highest-grossing release. Karuppu collected ₹24.15 crore on day two and ₹39.65 crore after two days. Lifetime, Karuppu closed at ₹310.12 crore and Vishwanath & Sons at ₹209.46 crore. Scene is therefore ahead of one recent Suriya title, but a shade behind the pace of the actor’s biggest film.
Why the second-day hold is the number to watch
In box-office coverage, the second-day number is an early read on audience response. A heavy fall after a strong opening often means front-loading; a smaller drop or a gain signals word of mouth. Scene arrives with positive reviews for Suriya’s performance as cop Inbaraaj and for the film’s quirky comedy inside a crime thriller. The release also marks Nazriya Nazim’s return to Tamil cinema after 12 years and Naslen’s Tamil debut, giving it event value beyond the plot.
On the competitive map, the Tamil release is dominating its home turf. The dubbed Tamil version of Ramayana has barely made an impact, leaving Scene in control of its home market.
- Day 2: ₹18.46 crore, down from a ₹19 crore-plus opening day
- Two-day total: ₹37.61 crore
- Benchmark: Karuppu two-day total ₹39.65 crore
- Competition: Ramayana’s dubbed Tamil version has not dented the home-market lead
What Sunday needs to do
The weekend is not the full story. Scene needs two things from here: a healthy Sunday hold and a stable Monday-to-Thursday run to convert good reviews into a long lifetime. Karuppu’s ₹310.12 crore final number was built on staying power; Vishwanath & Sons showed how a strong start can end lower if the post-weekend trend weakens.
For media planners and brand marketers, Suriya’s box office trajectory is a reach signal. If Scene finishes closer to Karuppu, the star’s brand value gets a second consecutive lift in 2026. If it finishes below Vishwanath & Sons, the conversation shifts to genre and release timing rather than pure star pull.
Produced by Suriya and Jyothika’s 2D Entertainment and Zhagaram Studios, and written and directed by Jithu Madhavan, Scene also stars Anandaraj, Lal, Rajpriyan, Suresh Mathiyalagan and Gajaraj alongside the leads.
