Netflix has taken a first, cautious step toward bringing Louise Rennison’s Georgia Nicolson diaries back to the screen. A pilot for a TV adaptation of Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging is now set to film in the UK in October 2026.
That matters because the title is not a fresh risk. Rennison’s Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series ran to millions of copies and was adapted into the 2008 British teen comedy starring Georgia Groome and Aaron Taylor-Johnson that still carries cult status. Netflix gets a pre-sold audience: viewers who grew up with the film and younger readers discovering the books on social platforms.
Who is building it
The pilot brings together a comedy-leaning team rather than a teen-content specialist unit. Writer and producer Monica Heisey is known for Schitt’s Creek, Workin’ Moms and her novel Really Good, Actually. Director Jim O’Hanlon has moved between Catastrophe, Trying and The Punisher. Rise Films and Fifth Season are co-producing, with Rachel Sheridan handling casting.

The open call that proved demand
Instead of relying only on established young actors, production ran an agent-free open call across the UK for Georgia and the “Ace Gang.” Two brief details tell you a lot about the intended series.
- All applicants had to be 18+ by 30 April 2027, even though they would play 15–16-year-olds. The listing cited “mature themes, adult content, and the working hour requirements of this production” as the reason.
- Applications were open to all backgrounds and required no professional acting experience, only a strong comedy instinct. The response was so large that Rachel Sheridan Casting closed the window early, saying it had been “genuinely overwhelmed” by submissions.
The early closure is a small but useful data point: it converts a development announcement into visible fan demand before a frame has been shot.
Why a pilot, not a straight-to-series order
Netflix frequently orders straight to series when it commits to IP. Here, the company is taking a different path. The pilot will be reviewed for tone, chemistry and test feedback before a full season is ordered. If the project is greenlit, the remainder of the series is targeted to shoot between May and October 2027, with a possible premiere in 2028.
For buyers and planners, that makes this a conditional, long-lead title. The smart approach is to treat the casting buzz as an early engagement signal, but not to lock budgets against a premiere until the pilot decision lands.
What to watch
The central test is whether Netflix believes the pilot can sustain the rowdier, more mature comedy promised by the casting notice. The books are beloved, the creative team is credible, and the open call generated disproportionate heat. But a pilot is still an experiment, not a series order. Netflix UK declined to comment.
