TelevisaUnivision’s US networks chief exits, no successor named

TelevisaUnivision’s US networks business is about to lose its most senior operator. Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Meyer will step down as president of US networks on October 15 after nearly 15 years with the company, moving into an advisory role on strategic projects.

The company has not named a successor, leaving a leadership gap across some of the most important Spanish-language media properties in the United States.

A portfolio, not a single channel

Meyer’s remit was broad. He oversaw the operations of:

  • Univision, UniMás and Galavisión
  • Sports network TUDN
  • Local stations, radio and the group’s US digital platforms

That scale matters for media planners. A change in leadership can affect how these networks package inventory, prioritise sports rights and approach content deals across linear and digital.

An entertainment executive at the centre

Meyer was appointed president of US networks in September 2022. Before that, he was executive VP of music and non-scripted entertainment, leading Univision’s global music strategy, entertainment content and live special events. He worked on agreements with record labels and artists and was involved in productions including Premio Lo Nuestro, Premios Juventud and the Latin Grammys.

Earlier, he helped develop Univision Live and coordinated music and special-events strategy between Univision and Grupo Televisa. Before joining the company, he was CEO of Wireless Latin Entertainment and held roles at Konexxion Enterprises and the Latin Recording Academy.

What to watch

Meyer is expected to announce his next move soon, and he stays connected as an advisor. But the unresolved question is the successor. Whether the next leader comes from programming, sports or commercial strategy will signal where TelevisaUnivision sees its US growth coming from.

For buyers and analysts, the practical step is to treat the period until a successor is named as uncertainty, not continuity. Long-term planning around Hispanic TV budgets should be stress-tested against a possible reorganisation of network leadership.
