Murder in a Small Town has become the kind of title that makes scheduling teams sit up: a broadcast drama that quietly converts into a Netflix discovery hit. Both existing seasons landed on Netflix US on September 29, 2026, and the show entered Netflix’s official US Top 10 at #6 for the week of September 28. The show had already found streaming audiences in Australia and the United Kingdom earlier in 2026, so the US Top 10 debut was less a cold start than a continuation. The question now is when Season 3 follows.

Season 3 is real and already shot. FOX renewed the series on May 7, 2026, citing an 11% increase in Season 2’s seven-day multiplatform audience over Season 1. Peter Gallagher joins as a series regular, Selma Blair is set to guest star, and the 10-episode season wrapped production in June on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast.
Creatively, the story will pick up from a cliff-hanger: Season 2 ended with Karl proposing to Cassandra and the credits rolling before she answered. Creator Ian Weir told TV Insider:
I can’t imagine breaking Karl and Cassandra up.
The next run is positioned around deeper commitment, Cassandra’s new job as mayor, and Karl’s estranged father.
Why the Netflix date is a scheduling question
Netflix has not announced a date, and for a licensed title there is no guarantee it will carry Season 3 at all. But FOX’s recent pattern is clear: it is using Netflix US as a catch-up runway into the next linear season. That makes the streamer window depend on when Season 4 airs.
Season 3 is held for midseason. FOX’s 2026-27 schedule kept Tuesday nights for Best Medicine and Doc and slotted Murder in a Small Town for 2027. A February premiere is expected on Global and FOX; the 14-episode Best Medicine run should free the Tuesday 8 PM slot by late January. FOX usually confirms those midseason dates in November or December.
