Mookuthi Amman 2 opens at Rs 1.88 cr

Two Tamil releases are now sitting at opposite ends of the box-office curve. Nayanthara’s fantasy comedy-thriller Mookuthi Amman 2 started its theatrical run on November 6, 2026, with a Rs 1.88 crore India net opening, while Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is in the slower stretch of a run that has reached Rs 824.25 crore worldwide.

Opening day: the Tamil version carries the sequel

Mookuthi Amman 2 collected Rs 2.15 crore in domestic gross, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India, from 2,127 shows across Tamil and Telugu. The average collection worked out to Rs 8,839 per show. Nayanthara appears as Goddess Mookuthi Amman in dual or multiple roles, with a supporting cast that includes Duniya Vijay, Regina Cassandra as the dark sorceress and Urvashi.

The Tamil version delivered Rs 1.75 crore net from 1,881 shows at 24 per cent occupancy. The Telugu version added only Rs 13 lakh from 246 shows, despite a marginally better 25 per cent occupancy.

  • Tamil: Rs 1.75 crore net, or 93.1 per cent of domestic net.
  • Telugu: Rs 13 lakh net, or 6.9 per cent.
  • Tamil Nadu: Rs 1.80 crore gross, or 83.7 per cent of India gross.

Occupancy also had a clear evening skew: morning shows saw 14.31 per cent, afternoon 17.62 per cent, evening 20 per cent, and night screenings 36.38 per cent.

What the split tells planners

The opening is really a Tamil Nadu story. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed Rs 15 lakh, Karnataka Rs 10 lakh, Kerala Rs 7 lakh and the rest of India Rs 3 lakh. For a sequel built on Nayanthara in the title role, the Telugu footprint is still small, and that matters when modelling regional release bets or co-marketing windows.

Jailer 2: the late innings look different

On day 23, Jailer 2 made Rs 60 lakh net in India from 619 shows, a 62.5 per cent fall from the previous day’s Rs 1.60 crore. Its cumulative India net stands at Rs 468.25 crore and India gross at Rs 547.65 crore. Overseas added Rs 10 lakh on the day, taking the international gross to Rs 276.60 crore and the worldwide total to Rs 824.25 crore.

Ticket sales underline the slowdown: about 43,388 tickets were sold on day 23, against cumulative sales of 3,19,48,474 tickets through the run.

Why the comparison is useful, not just trivia

Placing a day-one collection next to a day-23 number is not an apples-to-apples comparison. But it shows two revenue models at once: a new release that must prove its weekend hold, and a blockbuster converting late-show footfall into a global milestone. For anyone buying or selling Tamil theatrical audiences, the actionable signal from Mookuthi Amman 2 is the night-show jump. Demand improved through the day, and the weekend will show whether that night curve becomes the film’s base.
