Meesaya Murukku 2 has shifted the box office conversation from opening strength to hold strength. Released on September 25, 2026, the Hiphop Tamizha Adhi sequel absorbed an expected Monday fall on Day 11 and still left itself within reach of the Rs 45 crore worldwide gross milestone.
The Day 11 number
On October 5, the Tamil musical drama collected Rs 60 lakh net in India across 954 shows, with occupancy around 16%, according to Sacnilk data cited in the report. That is a visible step down from Sunday’s Rs 2.25 crore from 1,155 shows, a fall of roughly 73% day on day.
But the drop is expected weekday behaviour for a film with a youth-skewing audience. The revenue per show on Monday worked out to about Rs 6,300, against about Rs 19,500 on Sunday. In plain terms, weekday shows are running to keep the film in theatres; the weekend is doing the money-making.
Where the run stands
- India net total: Rs 31.70 crore
- India gross total: Rs 36.81 crore
- Overseas gross total: Rs 6.40 crore
- Worldwide gross total: Rs 43.21 crore
The first week contributed Rs 23.35 crore. The second weekend was the engine: Rs 3 crore on day 8, Rs 2.50 crore on day 9 and Rs 2.25 crore on day 10, totalling Rs 7.75 crore. With Monday’s Rs 60 lakh, week two currently stands at Rs 8.35 crore net.
The gap to Rs 45 crore worldwide is now under Rs 2 crore, so the milestone is plausible within the current weekday-weekend rhythm.
What this means for media planners
For entertainment marketers, the value here is the shape of the demand curve. The show count rose from 1,090 on day 8 to 1,155 on day 10, then dropped to 954 on Monday. Theatres and distributors are protecting weekend inventory rather than chasing weekday occupancy. That is a rational trade: the weekend contributed more than 90% of week two’s net so far.
Sequels like this that lean on music and younger audiences often show strong Friday-to-Sunday compression. The Monday occupancy of 16% is not necessarily a red flag; it signals where the audience is choosing to show up.
The overseas gross of Rs 6.40 crore is a modest but steady tail. For a Tamil title, the domestic run is doing most of the heavy lifting, and the worldwide total is effectively being driven by the India gross of Rs 36.81 crore.
What to watch next
The key test is whether the weekday floor holds around the Rs 60 lakh level or slips further before the next weekend. If weekdays stay shallow, the Rs 45 crore worldwide mark should fall within the next few days. If the floor cracks, the conversation shifts to how long the overall run can be extended. For now, the numbers reward the sequel’s second-weekend strategy, not its Monday.
