A dated animation slate
Marvel Television used its New York Comic-Con panel to give Disney+ a clear multi-year animation lane. Three new Marvel Zombies specials now have release windows.
- The Winter Soldier — Halloween 2027
- The Fist of Khonshu — 2028, built around Moon Knight
- The Last Guardian — 2029, with Guardians of the Galaxy styling
Spacing them a year apart turns a single special into a recurring October block for Disney+, starting with the first release on Halloween 2027.
The live-action question
The animation news lands while Marvel’s live-action Disney+ pipeline looks leaner. VisionQuest is still ahead, and Daredevil: Born Again will end after its third season. In late September, Marvel confirmed that season would be the show’s last, while also revealing a new spy thriller under the working title Zodiac.
At New York Comic-Con, the studio shared a Zodiac logo. Its S.H.I.E.L.D.-style marks feed speculation that the 2028 series could draw from Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Warriors comics, a Nick Fury spy saga with powered agents. That lineage matters because elements of Secret Warriors were already adapted in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., including Daisy Johnson/Quake. A logo is not a confirmation, but it sharpens the direction for buyers weighing whether familiar characters will return.
Why the dates are as important as the titles
For media planners and entertainment marketers, a dated Halloween special is a planning anchor. It gives programming calendars a fixed point, lets brand partners build around a known window, and makes the animation line feel like a recurring franchise rather than a test. The calendar also gives the slate a lifespan beyond a one-shot: three dated installments signal commitment to long-tail fandom, not a toss-in.
What planners should watch
The slate reads as a recalibration, not a retreat. Disney+ is stacking finite animation events while keeping a marquee live-action mystery alive. Doubts grew when Wonder Man, after an Emmy nomination for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, did not receive a committed second season. That was the first lead-acting Emmy nod for an MCU series since WandaVision.
The next sign will be casting. If Zodiac really borrows from Secret Warriors, it could bridge the old Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. audience into the current Disney+ era.
