Mandaadi jumps 77% on second Saturday to Rs 6.55 cr India net

After a soft Friday, Soori’s Mandaadi bounced back on its second Saturday. The film added Rs 6.55 crore in India net collections on September 19, up 77% from the Rs 3.70 crore it earned on Day 9, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India.

The Tamil sailboat-race drama has now crossed the Rs 93 crore mark in worldwide gross. Its 10-day India net total stands at Rs 67.55 crore, with India gross at Rs 79.00 crore and overseas gross at Rs 14.65 crore. The film is built around a traditional South Indian sailboat race.

Second Saturday: demand and supply both moved

The day’s gain came with an expanded footprint. Mandaadi played in 3,693 shows on Saturday, up from 3,346 the previous day. Overall occupancy climbed from 24.4% to 34.1%. That increase came alongside more screens, but the occupancy gain points to stronger demand, not just added capacity.

The Tamil version remains the commercial engine. It contributed Rs 5.70 crore from 2,345 shows and recorded 44.01% overall occupancy. Night shows were the strongest slot at 61.23%, a sign that late screenings are drawing the strongest demand.

  • Tamil 2D: Rs 5.70 crore from 2,345 shows; night occupancy hit 61.23%
  • Telugu 2D: 24.95% overall occupancy; night shows at 25.45%
  • 10-day total: Rs 67.55 crore India net and Rs 93.65 crore worldwide gross

Don’t overread the 77% headline

A 77% jump is strong, but it is also a recovery from a low weekday base. The more useful test for Mandaadi is whether Tamil occupancy holds above 30% on Monday and whether exhibitors retain enough shows in week three. The first-week total of Rs 57.30 crore gives the film a cushion, but the audience is clearly clustering around weekend and late-evening slots.

For media planners and marketing teams, that concentration matters. Mandaadi is behaving like a Tamil-led, evening-heavy theatrical title rather than a broad multilingual breakout. Spending is likely more efficient in Tamil prime-time inventory and late-show promotions than in national or generic campaigns.

The comparison with Sardar 2

Karthi’s Sardar 2 is operating at a much smaller scale. It added Rs 25 lakh on Day 10, taking its India net total to Rs 15.50 crore and worldwide gross to Rs 22.97 crore. Its Tamil version has collected Rs 10.58 crore so far. That gap shows how quickly screen allocation can narrow for a title that does not build a second-weekend case.

The takeaway for exhibition and distribution teams: a second-Saturday rebound can preserve a title’s theatrical window, but it needs to be followed by weekday stability. The next three days will determine whether Mandaadi is a genuine second-weekend hold or simply a Saturday spike.
