Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is no longer running on opening-week heat alone. After 20 days in cinemas, the Nelson Dilipkumar action drama is using its third-weekend momentum to close in on a Tamil Nadu record that the superstar has not held before.
Day 20: a small number that still tells a story
As of 9:03 AM IST on 2 November, the film was running in 626 shows and had added an estimated ₹11 lakh net for Day 20, according to Sacnilk. Tamil led with ₹8 lakh from 294 shows, Hindi contributed ₹2 lakh from 272 shows, and Telugu added ₹1 lakh from 60 shows. Tamil accounted for 72.7% of the day’s early net.
These are live estimates; final Day 20 numbers will arrive at night. But the daily number matters less than the trend behind the weekend.
The numbers that matter now
- India net: ₹459.81 crore
- India gross: ₹537.88 crore
- Worldwide gross: ₹807.25 crore
- Tamil Nadu gross after 18 days: ₹210.45 crore
A 103% weekend swing
Jailer 2 collected ₹30.70 crore India gross over its third Friday-to-Sunday stretch. Friday began at ₹6.40 crore, Saturday climbed to ₹11.30 crore and Sunday reached ₹13 crore — a 103.1% jump from Friday to Sunday.
That kind of recovery after the holiday run is the point. The film is still performing below its earlier weeks, but weekend audiences are returning strongly enough to give it a shot at a legacy record.
Why ₹6.80 crore is the figure to watch
With ₹210.45 crore gross in Tamil Nadu after 18 days, Jailer 2 needs just ₹6.80 crore more to move past Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time (The GOAT). Two other major Tamil blockbusters stand even closer, but The GOAT mark is the first visible benchmark in its path.
The chase is significant because it is happening after the initial holiday demand has settled. The film is showing legs, not just an opening spike.
What to do with it
For distribution and marketing teams, the third-weekend recovery is a real signal. If a big film can hold screens and rebuild weekend momentum after holidays, hold-and-spend strategies can extend a run. The Day 21 advance also supports that: 174,865 tickets worth ₹2.36 crore had been sold by 9:00 AM IST on 3 November.
