Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 closed its first seven days with ₹316.35 crore in India net collections, according to Sacnilk data cited by Mint. Vidyut Jammwal’s Street Fighter, which arrived one day later, ended its first week at ₹6.87 crore net. The arithmetic is stark: the sequel ran about 46 times ahead.
Two releases, two very different weeks
Jailer 2 opened at ₹59.70 crore on October 15 and stayed strong through the weekend with ₹47.25 crore on Saturday and ₹55.85 crore on Sunday. Weekdays were softer but still significant: ₹42.35 crore on Monday and ₹46.80 crore on Tuesday, before falling to ₹28.15 crore on Wednesday. It crossed the ₹300 crore India net mark inside the first week.
Street Fighter opened with ₹1.05 crore on October 16. Its weekend improved modestly—₹1.45 crore on Saturday and ₹1.58 crore on Sunday—but the working week brought it down to ₹78 lakh, ₹1.02 crore, ₹58 lakh and ₹41 lakh. The occupancy gap was just as wide: 8.3% for Street Fighter on Thursday against 34.8% for Jailer 2 on a Wednesday.
Why a 46x gap matters
The divide is not only about star power. Jailer 2 arrived with sequel equity—the built-in audience and trust a follow-up inherits from an earlier hit. The film’s predecessor had already done the heavy discovery work, which helps the sequel convert awareness into ticket sales quickly.
For exhibitors, occupancy is the decision-maker. A film holding above 30% midweek keeps premium screens and prime show timings. A release running in single digits loses them, and that compounds: fewer shows lower revenue further and reduce the film’s ability to recover in later weeks. For media planners, the first-week gap shows where pre-release awareness was strongest and where extra marketing had to work harder.
