Six days after its October 15, 2026 release, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has become the comparison point for Indian big-ticket openings. The Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel reported an India net total of ₹287.80 crore, according to trade figures cited by Hindustan Times. The Tuesday collection of ₹45.55 crore across 15,464 shows came in above Monday’s ₹43.35 crore, an early signal that demand is not fading after the Navratri-Dussehra period.
Day-wise momentum
The film opened with ₹59.70 crore and 55.4% occupancy. It then followed the standard post-opening path—down to ₹37.10 crore on Friday at 48.2% occupancy—before rebuilding through the weekend.
- Day 1 (Thursday): ₹59.70 crore, 55.4% occupancy
- Day 2 (Friday): ₹37.10 crore, 48.2% occupancy
- Day 3 (Saturday): ₹47.25 crore, 53.9% occupancy
- Day 4 (Sunday): ₹55.85 crore, 62% occupancy
- Day 5 (Monday): ₹43.35 crore, 49.9% occupancy
- Day 6 (Tuesday): ₹45.55 crore, 15,464 shows
The Tuesday rebound is the number distribution and exhibition teams should track. A first Monday usually lands lower; moving back up means the film is still converting audiences beyond the holiday window and gives theatre owners a reason to hold screens into the second weekend.
Passing two lifetime totals in one week
Jailer 2 has already overtaken the full India net runs of Ram Charan’s Peddi (₹244.64 crore) and Yash’s Toxic (₹250.13 crore). For a sequel, that compression matters: it needed six days to cross what those titles collected over their entire domestic theatrical life.
The occupancy curve also reframes how the film is being consumed. The peak was Sunday at 62%, not the opening Thursday. That suggests a segment of the audience was willing to wait for the weekend, and that franchise pull is still strong enough to manage a bigger crowd later rather than only at launch.
The next benchmark
Produced by Sun Pictures, the sequel brings back Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty in the cast and Anirudh Ravichander handling music. Nelson Dilipkumar captured the audience response with the line: “Theatres are going bonkers! Thalaivar magic hits different.”
The commercial question now shifts from opening dominance to hold rate. If Jailer 2 keeps delivering Tuesday-like numbers through the second weekdays, the conversation changes from a strong launch to a film with long-run profitability.
