Hanuman Ansh crosses Rs 423.26 crore worldwide on Day 59

Hanuman Ansh is now a case study in a backend-heavy theatrical run. On Day 59, the Vishal Chaturvedi-directed devotional drama collected Rs 3.00 crore net in India, a 42.9% jump over Saturday’s Rs 2.10 crore, according to Sacnilk data reported by The Times of India.

The Sunday number pushed cumulative India net to Rs 324.73 crore and India gross to Rs 383.56 crore. Overseas collections stood at Rs 39.70 crore, taking the worldwide gross to Rs 423.26 crore.

A week-wise curve that defies the usual shape

Most theatrical marketing is built around opening weekend. Hanuman Ansh shows why that can be too narrow. The film earned Rs 1.08 crore in Week 1 and only Rs 40 lakh in Week 2. Then the run turned:

  • Week 3: Rs 10.40 crore
  • Week 4: Rs 61.00 crore
  • Week 5: Rs 90.25 crore — the biggest week of the run
  • Week 6: Rs 80.25 crore
  • Week 7: Rs 44.80 crore
  • Week 8: Rs 29.20 crore

That means the film collected over 80 times more in Week 5 than in Week 1. For media planners, the lesson is simple: a slow start is not the same as a failed release. Some titles need discovery time, repeat viewing and word of mouth before they become media properties worth buying against.

The Sunday that powered Day 59

The weekend pattern shows demand building rather than fading. On Friday, the film made Rs 2.25 crore from 1,166 shows at 54% occupancy. Saturday dipped slightly to Rs 2.10 crore from 1,339 shows at 39% occupancy. Sunday then jumped to Rs 3.00 crore from 1,399 shows.

The Hindi 2D version’s daypart data is even sharper: 69.79% occupancy overall, with evening screenings reaching 86.54%. Afternoon shows followed at 75.62%, while morning shows lagged at 43.54%. In other words, evening audiences are doing the heavy lifting.

What this means for the industry

Hanuman Ansh’s journey is a reminder to look beyond the opening-day headline. Show-count expansion, week-over-week trends and daypart occupancy are better leading indicators of the commercial life of a film. The net-to-gross spread also matters: India gross of Rs 383.56 crore against India net of Rs 324.73 crore is normal arithmetic, but teams comparing titles should always state which number they are using.

The film added Rs 20 lakh from overseas on Sunday, so this is almost entirely a domestic story. With the worldwide total at Rs 423.26 crore and still climbing, the more interesting number is the shape of the curve, not just the size of the total.
