Gunmaaster G9 splits domestic and overseas distribution

Gunmaaster G9 has locked its overseas theatrical partner. Phars Films has acquired the overseas distribution rights for the Emraan Hashmi action romance, trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced, ahead of the film’s worldwide release on 27 November 2026. The financial terms were not disclosed.

The move gives the film a partner for territories outside India as the makers build the release network ahead of November. Phars Films brings an established presence in international distribution, particularly in the Middle East, where Bollywood titles often depend on first-weekend holds.

The overseas deal follows PEN Marudhar’s earlier acquisition of all-India theatrical rights. Director Aditya Datt’s film now enters its release run with two distributors: one for India and one for markets outside the country.

Why the split matters

For a star-led Hindi action romance, a Middle East-focused overseas partner can be a genuine advantage. Gulf and diaspora audiences can represent a meaningful part of the first weekend for these titles, and local market knowledge often decides how many screens the film holds after opening day.

A territory split also changes how the release is managed:

  • PEN Marudhar controls the all-India release plan and screen placements.
  • Phars Films handles overseas bookings and local promotion in its markets.
  • The producers get two revenue routes and two specialised partners instead of one global distributor.

This mirrors a familiar mid-budget Bollywood approach: pair a strong domestic distributor with an international specialist that knows the diaspora circuit.

Announcing the deal, Taran Adarsh described Phars Film as “one of the leading names in Overseas distribution.” The price of the acquisition was not made public.

Music and legacy are part of the pitch

The distribution update lands while the film’s promotional campaign is already moving. The teaser and the first song, “Afsaana Banaaya Aapne”, are out, and the track reunites Hashmi with composer-singer Himesh Reshammiya. The film also marks another collaboration between Hashmi, Reshammiya and director Aditya Datt, who first worked together in 2005.

That familiarity is not just nostalgia. A known star-composer pairing gives overseas exhibitors an easier marketing hook, especially in markets where the song can travel before the film opens.

Gunmaaster G9 also stars Genelia D’Souza, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Singh. It is produced by Deepak Mukut, Hunar Mukut and Sangeeta Ahir, and presented by Soham Rockstar Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. The film is an SRE Studio LLP production.

What to watch next

With domestic and overseas distribution now assigned, the next test is execution: bookings, screen counts and coordinated local campaigns. The deal is not a box-office result. Whether the split works will show in the opening weekend, not the announcement.
